Working Mom Breastfeeding/Pumping Questions.
I've got three
Okay 1. So each day I pump and I put the milk in the fridge for the next day... What do I do on Friday? Freeze it for Monday or just save it in the fridge?
2. How many ounces does a 4 month old eat at each feeding? For the past three days he has had 3 oz or less. Two bottle feedings while at day care from 8:30- 3:30 and a bowl of cereal.
Is this too little? Is he just adjusting from being away from me and will start eating more later.. or is that kind of what they do? Last night he came home and cluster fed until bedtime. Would you keep sending two 5 ounce bottles or would you send less.. I'm not pumping 10 ounces so I'm gunna go through my freezer stash really quick If I keep sending 10 ounces and they just toss what he doesn't eat! :(
3. Also, if you pump twice a day (6 hour day), how much would you expect to get? I pumped 9 ounces the first day, less than 5 the second day and 7 today. Technically, based on what he has been eating for the past three days.. that's enough. But, am really worried that it really isn't enough...... can you tell why I didn't feed very many bottles before???.. I will drive myself nuts with measuring and stuff!!!
TIA... This is a bit stressful for me!

Re: Working Mom Breastfeeding/Pumping Questions.
1. BM can be refrigerated for up to a week. So milk on Friday can be used on Monday with no issue.
2. Try sending three four oz bottles. If he is only eating three oz. then only one oz. gets tossed. BM can last a few days in the fridge, so if he doesn't use the third bottle the daycare can keep in for the next day and use that bottle first.
3. Your milk will vary a bit everyday. You are noticing it now because you are able to measure what you are getting. When I was pumping at work (twice a day) I was getting anywhere from 10 to 14 oz. I also pump twice more at home so that might have something to do with it. Babies will cluster feed at night, but he might not be eating enough as well. See how he does at his next wellness check and if he is still gaining then you are fine.

Re: Working Mom Breastfeeding/Pumping Questions.
1. You can keep the BM in the fridge for a week. I take the pumped milk and freeze it so I can replenish what I took out of the freezer for while I am working. Also, so what I pumped in July gets used.
2. DS is 3 months old and eats every 4 hours. He drinks 6oz in a bottle. My ped last week said that was fine.
3. I only have to pump once at work. I pump about 7 oz when I pump so I am good. I pump around when he would be eating.

1. You can leave it in the refriegerator until Monday or freeze it. I try to pump once per day on the weekend so I tend to freeze at least some of the milk I pumped on Friday. If I freeze it, I won't use it on Monday. I'll use older frozen milk.
2. DS was taking 4-5 oz at 4 months old. At the beginning, DS wanted to nurse a lot when he was home. That stopped after a while. Some babies go on a bottle strike and then nurse a lot at night.
What's daycare's policy on BM bottles? Do they throw any leftover milk away that hasn't been eaten within an hour? If so, I'd make smaller bottles and send in an extra bottle with an ounce or two. That way, if DS is hungry, there's milk there and you avoid throwing out a lot of milk.
3. My supply drops at the day goes on. When I was more diligent about pumping, I could get 6-8 oz during the first pumping session, 6-7 oz during the second one and about 5 oz during the 3rd one. Once DS started solids and I went longer between pumping sessions, my supply dropped. I rarely get more than 4-5 oz per session unless I pump first thing in the morning.

Re: Working Mom Breastfeeding/Pumping Questions.
2. DS is 3 months old.... He USUALLY takes 4-5oz every 3 hrs... however the past few days in daycare he is MAYBE taking 3oz...
His "schedule" is all messed up since he is getting up so early, and Im not sure if the girls are reading his "cues" correctly.. He is easily distracted as well....so I think that is why he isnt eating as much....Im hoping once he gets use to it, he'll be back in the game!
Can you send more bottles with less milk???? That way you are wasting less? and they can always heat up and give more...
3. My schedule goes like this: 4:30-nurse (in DS sleep) 4:45 pump- I get 6-8oz 7:45 pump- 5-6oz 10:45 pump- 5oz 1:30 (I either nurse or pump- if I pump I get 4-5oz) 4:30- nurse 7:30- nurse 10:00- pump 5-6oz
My 1st and last feeding is frozen and stored- the rest is for the bottles the next day...
Pumping makes me sooo stressed with the measuring.... esp towards the end of the day, because I get less and less....
