Working Moms and exercise
I really want to join a gym, but I just do not know when I will have the time to get there so I was thinking of buying a treadmill for my house. For those of you that work and go to the gym, when do you find the time to go.
Thanks!

Re: Working Moms and exercise
I go once a week. Like that's really going to make me skinny. But it's honestly the only weekday I can go. I can go on the weekends, but let's be honest, I'm not really that motivated.

Re: Working Moms and exercise
I happen to work weird hours. When I am working or working out, DH watches DS. When he works I watch DS.
I find that if I set small goals for myself that it is easier to go. I am in the middle of losing 150 pounds. (I know that most don't have that much to lose) But if I set-out only looking at 150 pounds I would find it difficult. Instead, I set a goal of 20 pounds by a certain wedding. Once I reached that I set another goal of another 20 pounds by Christmas, etc.
My next goal is to tighten up my arms before a wedding we have in April, where I will be wearing a sleeveless dress.
It is very easy to say we don't have the time, but it all has to do with the motivation. I also like to markdown the days I have worked out on a calendar (or planner where you can see the entire month) Once I finish the month I feel a sense of accomplishment when I see that over half the days have been workout days.
I will be MILF by DS's 2nd birthday!!!!!!

Re: Working Moms and exercise
i work out during lunch - only do it 2-3 times a week and then on saturday - when it is nice out, i put my Ds in the stroller and we take walks. IT is too hard to do it before i go to work and I want to spend time with DS after work. When he goes to bed around 8:30 -9 , i am too tired to even think about exercising.

Re: Working Moms and exercise
I don't belong to a gym, but I know several mothers who do and this is their "me time" to get out of the house several times a week. One of my friends also goes to karate with another friend. It's a good time to leave the little one(s) with daddy!
I have a treadmill and when the weather gets warmer, I plan to walk DS every day around the neighborhood and down to the park.
I find I enjoy taking walks much more than the treadmill, so doing something I enjoy is a bigger motivater for me to exercise.

Re: Working Moms and exercise
I've been trying to figure this out too and just decided that there really is no time to go to the gym.
I just bought the Wii Fit and it is so much fun.
DH and I play together from 9:00 to 11:00 after DS is asleep.
I'm not sure how much exercise I'm getting but I figured it's better than none.

What do you do on the Wii Fit, I just borrowed one and wanted to see if it was worth it in terms of a work out...

I do the yoga poses, and then either the hula hoop or advanced step.
DH and I will play boxing or tennis together.
I've only had it for a few days.
Truthfully, I don't know how much it will do in terms of a real work out, but before I was doing nothing and at least now, I'm moving my body for at least an hour.

I started jumping rope...takes me 10 minutes and burns calories like crazy. Works a lot of muscles too. I jump in my garage.

Re: Working Moms and exercise
I go running in the evenings through my neighborhood or at the track. When it's too cold or snowy outside I use the stationary bike we have in the basement.
I have workout DVDs but I never stick with them.

Re: Working Moms and exercise
DH and I are both avid exercisers (this week I have been sick so haven't stepped foot in a gym)
but here is how it goes - DH gets up at 4 in the morning and goes to the gym, or does his run outsied (yes, this morning he was out running in this subzero weather!)
I get the night times when he comes home - it is exhausting, I am tired from the day, and would much prefer mornings, but it is what it is.
I go to the gym at the EARLIEST, 6 or 6:30. The latest, by 8, which I hate....
ETA - I typically go everyday except Fridays, which is my "off" day
