Working mom's morning routine?
DD started her cereal over the weekend. I have to say - I didn't leave the house till - let's just say VERY LATE - yesterday! It was REALLY BAD. Between the extra "prep" (also she has to take amoxicillan for an ear infection right now) and the MESS... how do you do it without waking up at 4AM. After all that I cleaned up, she "decides" to poop all over herself... by the time she was dress (twice) and ready to go out the door - I found myself about 2 hours behind schedule. Not sure where I went wrong. Any advice?
I still have a billion loads of HER laundry I can't seem to fit into our schedule either. Meanwhile she's wearing her last clean sleep sack right now and we are running low on sleepers too. Not to mention that I did a ton of her laundry over the weekend An evening schedule may help me too.
TIA.

I don't feed my DD cereal in the morning - that is the job of whoever is watching her that day.

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
I never fed her cereal before work either. She would get milk soon after she woke up but no cereal until she got to daycare. It makes things a lot easier.
ETA: When I had a longer commute, I'd shower at night to save me some time in the morning. Definitely do as much as you can the night before... get the bags ready, set the outfits out.
As far as laundry goes, since having DD I have only had a communal laundry room (apt living). I do laundry on Monday or Tuesday nights. DH cooks that night or we have a quick dinner. I've learned I can't make a complicated meal when other tasks are going on so I keep it easy a couple nights a week to free up time for other household tasks.

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
I have daycare feed my DD breakfast. It saves A LOT of time in the morning.
I pack as much as I can the night before - I fix her bottles & food & my lunch & shower & set out my clothes, too.
I try to do a load of laundry just about every night - in theory, I try to throw it in as soon as I get home, but often that doesn't happen until after bedtime. If it doesn't finish until too late, I put it in the drier in the morning.
It DOES get easier; hang in there!

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
I aslo tried to feed DS in the morning when he started solids and I seemed to always run 30-45min late. I gave up and had daycare start feeding him breakfast. Everything went soooo much smoother. He's have his morning bottlw while I got myself together and he'd have breakfast about an hour later at daycare and neither of us were rushed.

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
I pack his bottles and do laundry at night during the week
Mornings he has his bottle and he eats breakfast at daycare. Sometimes when I have time and I am not in a rush he will have some Cheeries with me

I give DD her bottle in the am, and daycare feeds her the cereal every morning.

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
DS wakes up around 5am. I give him a bottle and he falls back asleep. I then shower, get dressed and get all his stuff packed. Clothes for him and me are layed out the night before. Anything DH or I need to take for him are kept by the door. I also keep my packed briefcase by the door. The bottles done and kept in the fridge the night before.
DH and I have a deal. Whoever drops him off in the AM has the responsibility of getting his bottles ready the night before and need to pack his bottle bag in the AM.
When its me, I wake him up at 6:30 , dress him and we are out the door by 6:50 and he is at his daycare by 7:05. When its DH, DS is usually 20 minutes late.
DS usually eats his ceareal around 9am.

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
I use to give my boys their bottles in the morning and then set them up in either their chairs or exersaucers while i ran up to get changed. I would shower at night. Their babsitter would feed them breakfast when they got to the house. After i would fix myself up for work I then changed their diapers and clothes.

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
I take my shower either at night, or before she wakes up...
I give DD a bottle when she wakes up. Then I change her diaper and get her dressed. She then goes into the living room with all her toys and Sesame Street on TV.
While I am getting dressed she is playing. Then we head out the door.
My mom gives her breakfast when we get there. And I make sure bags/lunch is packed the night before - if I don't do that, we'll never be on time!

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
I used to BF my DS before I went to work, so I used to wake up a little earlier. Now that he is on cereal, I don't feed him at home. I let daycare do it - there is no way I could get out of the house on time. My DS also poops in the car on the way to daycare!! He loves his mom and tries not to inconvenience her!!

I don't feed her in the morning either. I wake her up and give her about 2oz of a bottle just so she isn't starving and we go right in the car. My MIL feeds her breakfast, bathes her and gets her dressed for the day (I am lucky). I already wake up at 6am I could not imagine trying to feed her in the morning as well.

Re: Working mom's morning routine?
Thank you all SO much for this info...
I asked Daycare today what they need from me and they just said bring us a box of the cereal and add a little extra formula to one of the bottles - they'll do the rest.
That will make life a lot easier... this morning she didn't get ANY cereal. She's been sick/congested anyway, so she hasn't been as hungry. She had 6.5 ounces of her bottle and should be okay. She'll get her nightime cereal tonight.
Do any of you ever squeeze a work out into this tight schedule? I don't do mornings (never did) for working out, but I have tried doing more prep at night and showering and such, can't seem to squeeze in even a half hour on the treadmill. I'd like to change that but not sure how? I need more hours and less sleep
