Working moms: opinions please!!!! re: child care
I am going back in September to work and have a family member watching my children. I love this family member (my cousin) to death, but sometimes I think they will benefit more from daycare.
Any opinions??

I don't think you'll see any true benefit from daycare until they are maybe 9mos and up. My older DS didn't go to daycare until he was 1 yrs old and I don't think he missed out. I really wish I was able to keep my newborn out of daycare longer, but I have no choice.

Re: Working moms: opinions please!!!! re: child care
I think now that DD is starting to be able to "play" she's getting more out of it. However, when she first started going at 4 months they were solely a caregiver. She probably spent most of the time in the crib or swing. I would have preferred her with a family member until she was closer to 1.

Everyone is different, but for ME, I find comfort knowing that my mom is watching DS while I'm working. It makes it a tad bit easier for me to leave him.

I am in the same situation and honestly i think it is so much easier for now. One, I can spend time with them in the morning before she comes and not be rushed to dress them up. Second, they don't get any colds or anything. A co-worker of mine is out a lot because her kid is in day care and gets everything. Plus the fact they have each other is good too! I think when they are around 2 I will opt for day care for the social aspect of it, but for now i love it.

DD has been in daycare since 6 months (she's home with me for the summer) and at 11 months, she loves it!! She eagerly crawls to toward her favorite toys, loves to play with her friends & adores her teacher. They have music time every day, go outside for a stroll, do art. It's great!! I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with leaving a baby with a family member, but I think a quality & caring daycare center can be beneficial too.

I definitely wish Ava had more interaction with other children on a daily basis, but at the same time, I am grateful that she is at home with her daddy all day. And let's face it, I'm so glad I don't have to pay for daycare! I would see if your cousin would be willing to take them to play groups or have playdates. That helps a lot.
