Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary

About 50% of my take home pay goes to daycare for 2 children. It is a TON of money and from a financial standpoint, DH is working simply to pay for daycare. However, you have to remember that eventually the kids will be in school and if we don't keep our feet in the door of our careers, there will be no career waiting for us after they are in school. So it may not make sense now, but it will in a few years.

About 35% of my net salary. Even with 2 kids, it would still make sense for me to work.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary

25% of my take home pay (for 1 child), but my job offers free health insurance, so I'm not leaving my job anytime soon.

I only work part-time (3 days a week), and 40% of my salary goes to childcare for my boys.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary

Daycare gets about 60% of my take-home pay. But I also get benefits for the whole family because my husband is self-employed.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary

Technically 0% since my mom watches DD for free. Once she starts eating table food I will give her about $100 a week because I know she will be buying/making food for her.

But, I am basically supporting my parents - I pay all bills, mortgage and utilities so I don't know how i should count that.

The sad part is that even I was paying 100% of my salary for childcare I would have to STILL work b/c I carry the health insurance, retirement, all benefits Chat Icon

It's 50% of my take home pay. Luckily DH makes wayyy more than me so it all works out in the end.

This is us, too.

Yes, 50% of my salary towards daycare is a lot more than I wish it was...but the way I see it:

a) I'm not happy being a SAHM, so I may as well have someone else caring for them so I can work outside the home, and

b) SOME extra money in the bank is better than none, IMO. Both my maternity leaves, we were HURTING for cash.

0%, however, I sacrifice having my hubby home at nights since he is home all day and works all night.

About 30% of my after-tax salary, maybe a little less - my tax estimate might be wrong!

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary

30% of mine, for 2 kids.

We are in NC and daycare is cheaper, so I wasn't going to answer but then I figured it was about the percentage, not the absolute dollar.

about 40% of my AFTER TAX salary goes to daycare..so, after taxes, benefits and retirement, I get to keep about 60% of my take home.

Same here. I'm working 4 full days a week. 40% of my salary goes towards the nanny AFTER taxes, health insurance (I pay the family insurance), home insurance, retirement etc is taken out. My job has amazing benefits. So basically we have 60% of my salary and 100% of DH's salary to pay bills and put towards savings monthly. My 60% keeps us living very comfortably so it's totally worth it IMO.

Wow! I am surprised at how high the percentages are for a lot of you.

I am at 55% but am a full-time grad student.

I don't think it's that shocking.
Consider the avg center is probably about $1400/mo. for one child.

If someone is saying it's about 40% of their salary, then they likely earn about $65K which seems avg on LI, right?
Obviously there are some other factors (if you have health insurance, 401K, etc. taken out of your salary) but I'm just saying the numbers, to me, seem around what I would imagine them to be.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary

About 40% for 2 kids but I only work 3 1/2 days a weeks (but my DC are enroled FT). Totally worth it for me. I have the best of both worlds as I don't think I could handle being a FT working mom or a SAHM.
