working nights
I know a lot of your DH's work nights, but do any other mom's here work nights. I'm probably going to have to work nights for the summer starting in a few weeks. 8pm-4:30 am or 10pm-6:30. I don't know which and I don't have a choice. I'm really bummed about it. I feel like I'll be sleeping half the day away (Jack will be with my parents) and then I'll have a few hrs with him and DH before I have to leave for work.
I hate working nights...I feel like you're cut off from the world

Re: working nights
I work nights. I work 8pm-8am. Luckily I only do it 3 times a week. How many nights a week will you have to work? It does stink having to sleep the day away, but it is kind of like the "regular" people being at work during those hours. Who takes care of DS now? If it is daycare, then it will be the same for you -- he will be in daycare during the day (while you sleep) then with you in the evening til bedtime. Then instead of you going to bed, you'll go to work.
I know it kind of stinks, but I actually asked for this schedule because I didn't want to put DD in daycare all week long. And in my field, I can pretty much only get the 3x12 hour shifts to make full-time if I work overnight. I work Thurs, Fri, Sat nights so she only goes on Fri while I sleep then she is with DH on Sat. On Sun, I just take a short nap then spend the rest of the day with them.
I do hate going to work though when the rest of the world is relaxing and getting ready for bed. It just doesn't seem natural! Oh well, we can chat while the rest of the world is snoozing!

Re: working nights
I work 7pm-7am. As a matter of fact I just got home from working last night. I don't have anyone to watch DD so today she has to deal with zombie mommy. I pretty much nap when she naps or if I'm really exhausted put her in the pack n play and turn on the tv. I feel like such a neglectful mother on these days because I know I'm just no fun for her but luckily I only do it 2nights a week and I mostly try to work on weekends so DH can watch her. The one benefit for me is that I don't have to worry about child care. I do worry what I'm going to do when she gets older and the naps end

Re: working nights
I'm trying to find a night job. I haven't had any luck! I was hoping to do an Admin type job either 2nd or 3rd shift or a rotating 2nd/3rd shift. All I've found down here is 3rd shifts for nurses.
It is much better not having to worry about daycare. We'll see!

Re: working nights
Thanks for the responses ladies. Right now I'm home with Jack while I've been trying to find a job as a school guidance counselor. So, since that option is pretty much out until Sept...I need a job for the summer. For reasons way too long to go into, I actually am a member of a labor union as a "flag girl" so the job is M-F anywhere from 7pm-10pm to 3:30 am-6:30am depending on what shift the company wants to work. Luckily I don't have to worry about daycare because my parents are retired and right here (we live upstairs while saving for a house).
I guess the upside is I'll be available to go on interviews during the day
PLEASE....if anyone can help me get a guidance job in LI or NYC...HELP!!!
