Working out and TTC
I was wondering if you guys alter your work out schedule at all while TTC or more specifically during the 2WW.
I work out regularly doing something similar to Pilates. Tonight I am actually doing pilates. the other night after i went to class i had more spotting than at any other time. My GYN told me that there was no need for me to alter my workouts while TTC, but this extra spotting has me a little concerned.
Do you think its okay to continue normal work outs? It's all the lower Ab exercises that concern me the most.

Re: Working out and TTC
Well, I jut did a 30 minute ab class and an hour cardio kickboxing, and I am in the 2WW too.
As I was kickboxing I was thinking that I am probably bouncing the little nut all over, if there IS any nut!

I think i just get extra worried because the spotting i am experiencing was worse after i went to class. what i do is similar to pilates but with some cardio mixed in. sort of.... I am nervous....

Re: Working out and TTC
You can do everything you normally do in the 2ww. It's great that you are exercising and should continue to do so.
Jumping around, running, pilates, kickboxing will not make the little fertilized egg not implant or bounce right out of you.

Re: Working out and TTC
I was working out like a MAD WOMAN when I was pregnant and didnt even know it.
The 1st sign to me that I might be preggo was that during a spinning class I could NOT catch my breath--the next day I took a test.
I think regular intense workouts actually help in the conception dept

Re: Working out and TTC
My Dr. told me as long as you've been doing the workout before TTC it's fine to continue.
The only things you should do are things like skiing and sports that could result in crash of some sort.
I foolishly stopped working out for 3 months, I felt like complete crap. So I started up again.
It's better to be in shape when you're preggers anyway.

I agree 100%. I used to work out a lot. I stopped and I felt like poo. I just joined a new gym about 3 weeks ago and when I am done with my work out, not only do I feel better physically, but mentally. It also allows me to focus energies on something OTHER than TTC which has caused me a great deal of stress. When I mentioned this to my doctor, he was pleased and supportive. I have been told (by more than one person) that it is easier to lose the baby weight afterwards, if you are able to exercise throughout a pregnancy. I plan on using a trainer to help me exercise safely now as well as throughout a pregnancy unless instructed not to.

What if you have not worked out in a long time....is it safe to start now while TTC?

I havent worked out in over 2 years. The doctor did not say that I was putting myself or TTC in any danger. Nothing I do right now could hurt an early pregnancy.
If you are concerned about over exerting yourself, then stick to a low impact cardio work out and limit the weight on machines and free-weights. You could walk a treadmill.

Re: Working out and TTC
This question crosses my mind all the time; I am a runner and workout about 6 days a week. However, from what I am told, you should NOT stop working out while TTC. Of course when pg, workouts will have to be modified depending upon the individual. The key is not to begin a new workout plan while pg - for example, when you are pg is not a good time to begin a kickboxing or step class!
I sometimes wonder if all my working out is preventing me from conceiving; however, I have posted this question on other websites geared towards athletes and many have replied that they got pg while running 50 miles per week - which is about double what I do! Some have even run races while pg, not knowing that they were & still had healthy babies. So I think we're ok....best of luck to you & everyone out there

Re: Working out and TTC
To kind of respond to everyone, when you are TTC and you haven't worked out in years, it's still good to start some type of exercise. Just don't attempt to train for a marathon of something like that.
Runners who have been running for a long time can continue to do so. The reasoning for stopping would be running, cycling, roller blading....all exercises like this have a risk of falling down and resulting in injury.
I was a runner. I used to run 4 miles a day. Was down to 3. Now I do the elliptical, hiking, and the bike at the gym. I decided that I still want to stay in shape, but want to do low impact exercises.
It's a personal choice. I am clumsy, and have actually tripped while running...only once because I was really tired and dragging my feet. That's enough to make me walk fast uphill for now.

You know, I say now that I would want to maintain my exercising, but part of me would constantly worry that I was harming the baby. Therefore, depending on what the dr says, I will absolutely tone it down when and if I get pg. Right now, as I am TTC, I can't see the point of stopping my working out, I just truly hope that is not what is preventing my conceiving.

It's not. I was running 4-5 days a week while TTC. If your body is already used to that amount of activity you will be fine.
