running/working out & TTC
I run and/or workout about 6 days a week. My question is, will this working out, especially the running, decrease my chances of getting pregnant? I really do not want to taper it as I enjoy staying in shape and the joy of running; however, if it is really a risk to my chances, I will do what I have to. My cycle varies from 28-38 days, which does not help - my guess is the working out is causing the longer cycles. I've been off the pill for 7 months. However, since I was training for the NYC marathon, we did not start trying until recently.
I am freaking out because I turn 35 in a few weeks & feel as if the "cut-off alarm" is going to go off! Thanks for the help & happy holidays!!!

Re: running/working out & TTC
i was a regular runner too. ran 5-6 miles almost 5-6 days a week. love running ran 4 NYC marathons etc... kept running while TTC and was so surprised that i didn't conceive right away! i always though b/c i was SO active that i would be PG right away. everyone kept telling me that i was overdoing it and that if i didn't give myself a rest that it might be harder. i very reluctantly cut back on my running. i did the elliptical/walked and trimmed down to running weekends and one morning a weekday. anyway, got PG that month. do i think that's what did it? NO but i guess it can't hurt to relax it a bit. being in shape is a huge advantage and so much better for you but overdoing anything is never good and your body sometimes needs a rest. i regret to say that i have not been able to run during my pregnancy (i'm 14 weeks) b/c i had spotting in the early weeks so i am paranoid, i just walk now (BORING) but it's something. i miss running so much!! but like i said, don't stop maybe give your self lighter mileage for a month or so and see how it goes. much luck to you and lots of

Re: running/working out & TTC
I'm also a runner and did not alter my workout schedule while TTC. I was working out 6 days per week and running 4 of those 6. Once I got PG, I did change to walking but that was because I was put on restricted activity for a few weeks. The general rule is to not do anything you didn't do before and to change your schedule if your dr. advises you to. Other than that, it's healthy for you and baby.

Re: running/working out & TTC
When I was TTC my first I was obsessed with working out. I took spinning like 5 days a week and did pilates and lifted weights, and I got PG after the first cycle that I started charting.

Re: running/working out & TTC
Thanks for all the advice. I am trying to start charting & backing off slightly. Also, I have a drs appt Tues, so I will get his opinion as well. A friend of mine had mentioned that overdoing the running could interfere, that is why I asked. Thanks again!!
