Worried about DS weight gain.

My ds is 7 1/2 months old.
He's 21 lbs (that was 2 weeks ago )
28 1/2 inches

Is anyone else worried about their dc weight gain? My dr. never said anything to me about it and I go every 2 weeks for an immunization. I took him last night because he's sick (well all of my kids are sick) and the Dr was like WOW! What are you feeding him? I said to him you told me last time I was here that he's growing fine. Then my dd went crazy and we tried to move the visit quickly with 3 sick kids! I'm kind of annoyed with this comment.

Now I'm worried. Now granted my ds has a big Irish head and he's very long but I've gotten comments on how he's going to be a line backer one day!

Re: Worried about DS weight gain.

I would not worry. My MIL and others say our DS is too "fat" (Sorry, i can't STAND using that word with an infant!)

Meanwhile, at DS' last visit (6 mo well visit) he was 20 and 1/2 lbs, and 27 1/2 inches. DH asked Dr if we should worry about his weight. BTW, DS has rolls all over, and his feet are little balls with toes....it's TOO cute!

The Dr said no need to worry. He said when a child is 1 and 1/2 to 2 yrs is when they start becoming fussier eaters, and will thin out. However, if you have a 2 yr old who is chubby, then he'd consider controling the diet.

My DS is a big baby. He is in the 95th percentile for height & weight. He has been since he was born. I honestly don't worry about the comments. I feed him healthy meals & that is really all I can do. As long as your DC is healthy that is all that matters. Chat Icon

Abby is almost 7 1/2 mos. and she's just about the same...21lbs. and 28in. and she's a GIRL! I was told she's in the 95% for weight (which is DOWN from last visit where she was over 100%...haha!) and 90% for weight.

My doctor didn't express any concern and I believe they usually slim down once they become more mobile. Hmmm...Abby's very mobile Chat Icon Anyway, everyone loves a "healthy" baby!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

No worries....

DS is 4 months old and over 18lbs and almost 27 inches...I get comments all the time about his chubby cheeks and when is he starting football etc. Ive also had the comments of "dont worry he'll slim down once he starts crawling etc"..to be honest with you he ISNT FAT. Yes he does have nice chubby cheeks but if you saw him without clothes one would see that he is simply a "big boy"...He is eating what he should be and isnt a piggy at all.

All my kids were nice and pleasantly chunky as babies...the twins for goodness sake are TINY now. (5th percentile for height and weight)

Re: Worried about DS weight gain.

I'm on the other end-My oldest DD was that weight at 15 months and at her 18 month appt she only gained 1 lb. At 18 months she was 22lbs and 32 inches.

I have a skinny minny peanut. My doc not concerned cause she staying on her growth curve.
But my #2 is my chunky monkey. at 5 months old she's 18 lbs already and wears the same size diapers as her older sister who 14 months older.

I say if your PED's not worried, then no worriesChat Icon Chat Icon
Maybe he just went through a huge growth spurt. But the PED's comments hopefully were just jokingly.

Re: Worried about DS weight gain.

My DD was 16lbs. 3 oz. at her 4 month appt., 27 inches. She was 95th% in weight & 98th% in height.

I'm not worried in the least...my SIL says she has screw on hands...her wrists are so chubby & her legs.

My dad is always asking how much is she eating, but I know she's healthy & the bm is obviously agreeing w/ her & my ped is not worried so neither am I.

Re: Worried about DS weight gain.

I wouldnt worry for a second. He's an infant, there's no way to slow his weight gain, nor do I think you need to. He'll eat what he needs to eat and he'll gain what he needs to gain. It's not like he's a kid or an adult and you can say that he's eating the wrong things and putting on weight in the wrong way. No cause for concern IMO.

LMAO @ the big Irish head. My older son has one too, don't discount the weight of the melon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Worried about DS weight gain.

My DS was 21lbs at his one year visit and 31.25 inches.

40% for weight and 80% for height.

I'd like him to gain a little but I was assured he was healthy.

It sounds like babies can be perfectly healthy either big or small and that's all that matters!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
