Worried about this position (pic included). Need thoughts

What are your thoughts on sleep positioners?

I notice when DS sleeps in his bassinet that he sometimes gets on his side. I usually swaddle him bc i want him to be warm and i dont wnat to use a blanket.

But this is usually the result. It makes me nervous that hes on his side like this. DOes it look like his back is flat though?

The last 2 nights i had him sleep all night in his swing bc it allows him to be "flat"Chat Icon But this is a habit i DO NOT want to start

Please give me your thoughts??

ETA: Some of you have mentioned moving the swaddle from his face a bit in your replies. As soon as this pic was taken, i realized it and changed the swaddle. I now do it where its almost like aVneck so its not up to his mouth. AHH when i saw this by his mouth i freakedChat Icon

Re: Worried about this position (pic included). Need thoughts

DD used to do that when we swaddled her. not all the time, but every once in awhile and she was fine. we stopped swaddling her after a month, and now just use a sleep sack. she actually sleeps more on her back now, but will wiggle all over the co-sleeper.

as for sleeping in the swing, there have been nights where i put DD to sleep for the night in the swing. i also do not want her in the habit of sleeping in the swing, but our ped told us they don't start to develop habits like that until they are 3-4 months old. i only do it occassionally when she needs the comfort (like after her first shots).

My Ped said sleeping on his side is fine, she told me to roll up a towel and put it behind him ( I thought that was a SIDs risk though?) In the hospital they swaddled them and put the babies on their left sides, it better for gas and digestion.

First off... He ADORABLE!! What a cutie sleeping.

You may want to move the blanket down further from his face. I think he's ok though. DS slept in the wedge for the first 2 months so I'd prop him on his side, but he couldn't roll more b/c he was wedged. Some people disagree with that.

It's what you feel safe with.

Totally fine!

If you want, you can get a crib wedge, my nephew uses in in the crib so he isnt all over the place. It keeps him upright and not on his side.

It's fine! DD was never swaddled but she rolled to her side at a few weeks old and now that is usually the only way she sleeps at night.

I was thinking the same thing - we used the Swaddle Me too and it would always "ride up" on my DS's face like that - so when I wrapped him I would do it a little lower. He is so cute!

My DS only started sleeping this way now and he is almost 4 months. But I think your son should be fine, if you are worried then you can use a wedge positioner - I used the First Years one for 3 months.

He's OK. My DS used to do the same thing, and he was also swaddled.

At around 8 weeks, I moved him to the crib, though, because somehow he was able to scoot himself over to the side more and his face would be up against the bassinette. That freaked me out, so we started using the crib.

ds used to actually sleep more on his side when he was using the wedge... he would squirm and find a way to sleep on the wedge sideways...

that being said ds aways slept on his side and still does.... i asked my ped and she said it actually not a bad thing because if they do spit up while sleeping it will go out of their mouth....

DS has slept in that same position since he was born. We couldn't even get him to lay flat to take his newborn photo in the hospital, he is almost sideways.

He should be just fine.Chat Icon

My DS would do that too but he actually stopped turning onto his side (he's 7 weeks). I remember asking the ped and he told me to let him be, if he turns, he turns.

Re: Worried about this position (pic included). Need thoughts

I think it's fine that he is on his side (he's so adorable btw!)... I used a sleep positioner with Sasha until she started scooting down the crib (and a miracle blanket).

Sasha sleeps on her side now, and has since we weaned off the swaddle... and sometimes (recently) ends up on her belly.

If it makes you feel better, get a sleep positioner.

Perfectly normal. Just make sure to switch his head from side so that he is not always on one side...thats how they develop flatness in certain areas. My son always slept on his left side and his ear would always fold under lol...I was so conscious about his ear always being tucked in so that he didn't have a dumbo ear in the future...lol...
