Worried that about my son's eating....
He will soon be 10 months old and is still not eating "real food". He eats the baby food and takes a bottle, but the moment I give him a little piece of meat, pasta or the puffy stars made for baby he throws up--bad. Has this happen to anyone else? He only has his two bottom teeth.

It happened to me with Joseph. I think it was because I waited too long to introduce real food to him.
We started mashing things, eased into not mashing them as much. He had a pretty strong gag reflex.
Unless you think there is a physical problem, I would keep trying. Have you tried mashing bananas?

This is exactly us!!!! DS is 14 months- we held off on real food because of his milk allergy and now it has come back to haunt us! I gave him the littlest piece of chicken-I had to put it in his mouth because he wouldn't even pick it up- and he gagged on it and threw up all over the place!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Worried that about my son's eating....
i'd try to gradually make his baby food thicker and lumpier. do you use jarred food? if you make it yourself you can have more control over the consistency. you could also try mushed fruits or veggies first before moving onto meats or pasta or anything crunchy or more firm. you could also mix small soft pieces in with the baby food. it sounds like it's the texture that he's not used to that's making him gag. you might also want to let him try just touching or playing with the food on his high chair tray before trying to get him to eat it. fm if you need more help. i'm a speech pathologist and have dealt with a lot of feeding issues.

my son was a gagger at aout 9-10 months. Keep givng puffs until he is used to it. Meat is a wierd texture and my son still gags on it at 16 months.
Puffs and cheese was what we started with.

I would suggest the same exact thing...Bella eats more table food now, but her fruits and veggie servings are STILL jar food at 16 months...don't worry, they go at their own pace...
