would a 6 week old cry from boredom?

My DS is having problems with gas, so he is generally colicky for the past few days. It has only been in the past week that he is more alert. If he is awake, but crying a lot, is it definitely the tummy problems? Somtimes he stops for a bit if we give him something interesting to look at but sometimes he doesn't stop for anything. I wonder if I am just not used to having him awake so much, so I don't know what to do with him (well, I do try things like the swing, bouncy, etc. but I do not know how else to entertain him). And, is it odd that he is so suddenly awake a lot more?

In the books I have read, yes, babies do cry from boredom. Sometimes when DD is fussy I try the swing or the bouncy seat. When that doesnt work, sometimes I just lay her on the couch next to me and talk to her, or I just lay her down in the crib. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't Chat Icon

when DD gets fussy and I know she's not hungry, sometimes all it takes is a change in scenery.

I think they do cry from boredom and the fact that he is awake more is probably why. DS has been very alert since he was born and he just gets fussy because he gets overtired but cant relax and go to sleep. I also heard fussiness peaks at 6 weeks.

ITA, sometimes just going from the living to the bedroom or kitchen calms them down.

Thanks everyone! I see where the change of scenery helps but sometimes only for 10 minutes. I moved him from his bassinet to the sunggle nest and that helped for a bit. It's just tough because right now I want a nap, plus I had to drop out of a work related course I was supposed to take tonight. I am too tired to pay money to fall asleep in a class, and I don't even think I should drive!

I remember DS going through something similar at that age. He went from sleeping a lot to being away and more often than not, cranky. The phase lasted until he was about 8 weeks or so. He still has his days, even now, but it's much improved.
