Would you accept a job paying $7K less than what you are making now? (Details inside)

I am working in Corporate America and make good money. However, I am not happy. I also want to go to school for nursing and they most certainly will not pay for that, nor will they pay for business related schooling. Kinda ridiculous, but that's how it is.

I recently went for an interview in a hospital and was informed the salary for 2 positions is 6-7K less than what I am making now. BUT..they pay for school 100%.

While I am content w/the money I am making, I am not happy with this job. It's too stressful and WAY to demanding and it's taking me away from my family and I doubt I'll be able to go to school given the fact that the hours here aren't flexible.

I'm just wondering if I'd be making a terrible mistake $$ wise. I spoke with DH about this and he doesn't care either way..he just wants me to be happy.

With the educational reimbursement I would definitely take the job. You are setting yourself up for the future...sounds like a great opportunity!

Before you say pay cut...can I ask...how many hours do you work now and how many hours would this new job be?

For an accurate Total salary, you need to take in to account benefits. School is several thousand a year, depending on school and credit load, so it sounds like the salary outcome would be about equal, plus if you hate your current job, anything else would be less stress, and worth changing for. Plus, it looks like you'll have less hours at the new job. I say go for it.

I would take the job more closely related to your career choice simply to improve my quality of life. Paid education and slightly less hours helps to offset the decrease in pay.

Im going to take a pretty big pay cut when Im teaching f/t, compared to what I made 7-8yrs ago in the city.
(never mind the hUGE paycut of being a SAHM but there are other "payments" from the kids as we all know too well )

but it's worth it for the change in lifestyle and the teaching career being great to have with a family

sounds like its worth it for you to do.

take it. forgetting school all together for a minute, your happiness is worth something all on its own and IMO, that's definately more than 5K. So long as you can swing it, i say go for it.

I say take it. If you want to go to school for nursing and they'll pay for it, go for it. You will also probably get a job there since they'll know you, once you get the nursing degree.

I am kind of in the same position (although I don't have an offer on the table yet). I'm planning on moving to a different career, but in order to get started in that field, I would have to take a pay cut. But after a year, I should get tuition assistance so I can go to graduate school.

I would totally do it! Being miserable in a job is an awful feeling.

like said before....GO FOR IT!

Between tuition reimbursement, you are working in a hospital (use the networking), bettwe hours (remember you WILL need time for studying)....GO FOR IT!
