would you bring the baby to a wedding at 1 mo?
I'm due 4/29/07. My cousin just moved her wedding up from the end of June to May 24th.
Would you bring a 1 mo. old to the wedding?
We are very close and she is the 2nd to last in our extended family to get married so I would hate to have to miss the wedding but I am really not comfortable with bringing the baby since he will be so young and I'm sure everyone is going to want to hold him.
We were thinking of just having DH go, but I am really sad at the prospect of missing it.
What would you do?

Only after they had their initial shots would I take the baby out, and even then, I don't know if I'd take the baby where I knew everyone would want to hold him (like a family celebration).

Re: would you bring the baby to a wedding at 1 mo?
i wouldn't bring the baby because i wouldn't really be able to relax and enjoy myself. aside from the fact that i wouldn't know if kids are invited to the wedding... is there anyone you can entrust to babysit? (not sure who is going to the wedding - your mom? his mom?)
ETA: i am due one month before my best friend's wedding and i will definitely be attending but i won't be bringing the baby, my mom will be babysitting.

I definitely wouldn't bring the baby. I guess you do not have anyone that can babysit?
Edited to add: My sister-in-law is getting married 5 weeks after my due date. I am a bridesmaid and my brother's wife has generously offered to watch our baby for the day/evening while we're at the wedding.

I wouldn't bring a 1 month old baby to a wedding. Also you might be late so the baby could possibly be less than one month old.

ITA. Most shots aren't given until the baby is 6 weeks.
Also, I would want to enjoy myself and I would hate for the baby to start fussing during the ceremony (I hate that).
Can someone watch the baby for you for those few hours while you go to the wedding?

honestly no i would not..to me they are just too small and i would also worry about the music being too loud and hurting their ears.

No way- too young. My cousin is getting married on April 19th, and I am pretty sure I will be declining the invite. I GUESS I could leave the baby with his parents, but at the MOST he will be 3 1/2 weeks- I would rather not.

Re: would you bring the baby to a wedding at 1 mo?
Thanks, ladies. I guess I knew what the right answer was before I even posted but was just so disappointed at not being able to go.
My mother is going to the wedding so she can't babysit and MIL is 2 hours east of us in Suffolk (I live in Queens) and the wedding is at 11AM in NJ.
It would just be too much to drive the baby over in the morning to MIL and then head to NJ for the wedding.
I guess DH will have to go without me!

Maybe your MIL will be willing to drive out and watch the baby at your house?

Re: would you bring the baby to a wedding at 1 mo?
My sister had a similar situation.
Since she was breastfeeding leaving the baby at home was not an option.
She also didn't want the baby to be center of attention/people all over him. So my mom actually went to the wedding too and my mom stayed outside with him, went for walks with him, changed diapers, etc. And this way my sister was there if he needed to eat.
They definitely didn't stay for the entire reception, but it was better then not being there at all.
eta: I will be in a similar situation as well, my EDD is July 2nd and we have a wedding first week in August. I plan on bringing my mom

I would have your MIL watch the baby at your house. If she has to spend the night before to get out there in time - that's what I would do.
Even if you go for just the dinner part - it will probably be really good for you to get out and enjoy yourself a bit!

I wouldn't...I would get a babysitter if possible. My only reasoning would be the music though...not the people.

totally agree with this. At 1 month, the baby will not have had any of their shots, and if they get sick, it could become very serious.

Re: would you bring the baby to a wedding at 1 mo?
No, with DD#1 we had a family wedding when she was 5 weeks old and I left her with my mom and we did not stay the whole time. She would have been swormed by people at the wedding.

I would not take a baby that small, but I would consider leaving them with a family member fo a few hours.

Re: would you bring the baby to a wedding at 1 mo?
Definitely not.
If your baby is exposed to germs that early, her immune system will react by spiking a fever. A newborn in a fever requires a spinal tap to rule out meningitis, etc.
I know because I had to go through it with my 2nd child after my 1st child got her sick. We knew she more than likely had the same thing as he did but could not risk being wrong because a newborn can crash within minutes.
Maybe nothing will happen, but it isn't worth it. Trust me on that.
