Re: Would you buy a house...
Totally off topic but I am happy to see all the DH who AREN'T handy like mine. After all the beautiful pics of renovations, I was beginning to think it was only my DH.

Re: Would you buy a house...
If you could live in the house as you do the work, i would buy the house and do the work yourselves.

sista...I love my DH and all, but he is useless...good thing he's good at what he does because he would starve as a handy man.

I would buy it. Eventually, you would want to change everything in the house to the way to want it, so why not start now? Go for it!
I agree.
I would also really asses what needs to be done. What big ticket items and what smaller ticket items. Even if you end up paying more in the long run, it will be what you want. (plus real estate is an investment, so I don't think that you would ever lose $$ on the house, especially if it is in a desirable area)
Plus, you will end up doing some of the cosmetic projects in a more updated house anyway (even if you think you won't before you move in).
But if you are not a patient person, the waiting to get things done will drive you crazy!!

Re: Would you buy a house...
YES!!! As long as the repairs were not impossible or way over the top expensive. But yes I would! Go for it, especially if it is your dream house!

Re: Would you buy a house...
Nope. We are not handy at all and actually really lazy when it comes to household things. To us, we'd rather pay top dollar for move in condition than deal with the stress of having to do it ourselves. This is why we are still saving for a house!! Everyone has different priorities.

It depends on if it was liveable in the time being and how much it would cost to update it.
In my case, my DH is not handy AT ALL, so I know if we bought a fixer upper we would have to hire out all the work and it would be $$$$.

Re: Would you buy a house...
I think it would depend if I had the money to fix it up while I have a mortgage to pay. I'd also have to consider how bad it really is as is.

Re: Would you buy a house...
I would definitely buy a house that needed work, barring that work was more cosmetic. I'm not sure if I'd want to mess with something that had serious structural issues like foundation or termites or something like that. But if its carpet, paint, even new a/c, roof, etc, yes I would do it if the price was right.
