Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field UPDATE
There is a house on the market that I want to look at..It's the style house we love and the area we love, but it's across the street from a park...to be specific the baseball field of the park. The park has it's own parking lot so there won't be ppl parking by our house, and there is no entrance to the field by the house..it's just facing the field...DH is basically totally against it..me not so much...what are your thoughts???
UPDATE: So we went to see it...I it so much!!! We've driven by a couple of times and it has not been trafficky or busy at all but I knew that bc of the parking lot it has and it's not really a huge park...I'm going to drive by it this weekend at all hours day and night and see how it is... But it's really the house we love...and the area we like..oh well we shall see

I wouldn't. Sometimes teenagers hang out at parks at night and it could get noisy. That's what I've heard anyway, from people living near parks!

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
I wouldn't want to. We live a couple of streets over from a baseball feild. We also were looking at a house on the block that faced it. We notice that every weekend cars are parked all over the two blocks near the feild (even tho it has a huge parking lot.) We also noticed that they have these huge lights for the field that are on most nights, they also make a buzzing noise.
ETA: Everytime we pass that block and house on our walk, we're thankful that we didn't get that house.

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
It would depend for me. Is it a field like the baseball fields at Wantagh Park that can be lit at night so games are going pretty late? Probably would pass.
A little league field or something small that isn't set up for night games? Sure.
From what I remember in high school, we were hanging out in the bigger parks where it was easier to duck the cops, not on a little ball field with a chain link fence that leaves nowhere to hide.

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
I lived in a house across the street from a little league field in a very desirable town growing up. It was an awesome place to live during the day ....not so much at night. Teenagers and derelict adults used to hang out, drink and do ridiculous things. One time a man actually followed my mom from her car to the door saying, "I'm going to murder you". She freaked out and yelled for my father. The next day, my dad spoke to one of the 'derelict adults'...the ring leader of sorts and from then on, my family was protected from that crew, but not others. It is a horrible memory for me and I still shudder when I recall it. The guy was probably just drunk and goofing on my mom...but still.....who wants to deal with that. There were also other negative things about living so close to a park. So, based on my actual experience, I'd say no...I would definitely not buy a house across the street.

I wouldn't want to live that close to a park but its YOUR HOUSE. If it doesn't bother YOU then that is what matters- we don't know anything about the house so asking us is kinda just telling us one bad thing about the house kwim???

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
I used to live across from a park, the baseball field of the park. For the most part I didn't mind it, but I will give you 1 piece of advice:
Sit by the house when a game is going on and see if an ice cream man comes around.
There were 2 ice cream trucks that sat by the baseball field/park every weekend and played the 30 second song loop OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. By 6pm on Sunday night I would be a crazy person and DH would have to go out and offer the guy money to stop playing the music!
I never had issues with people in the park at night.
It is YOUR house so you guys should do whatever makes you happy. I would check it out at all different days/times and then decide.

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
depends on the park...a baseball field - probably not b/c of the lights.
but we live next to a preserve and it's great not having any neighbors. It's SO quiet!

Thats the only thing about the house we aren't sure of..everything else is what we're looking for
As for the others that mentioned the hs kids and weirdos..the gates are locked after hours, so I don't think there is a way for them to get into the park, but I'm sure they could if they tried...I know there are a few "hangouts" for hs kids and this isn't one of them...
As for the lights, my DH doesn't think they have them, but we're going to check, that was a great point we didn't even think of! So thanks so much!!!

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
no because of noise. games can go on for all hours of the night, and there could be other activities going on during the day that would annoy me and possibly keep my kids from napping. DH and i were just talking about this last night because of fireworks that were going on at a local park and how we're glad we don't live near it.

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
I live right next to a small neighborhood park.....it has its good and bad things. I love having all the neighborhood kids playing there and there is a walking track. It gets locked at night so we havent had an issue with night noise but We do have HS/college kids hanging out in the parking lot during the day drinking and we even have our neighborhood drug dealer using it as his office. We are working with the town/police to try and get the illegal activity removed.

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
I always thought yes but now that i bought a house a block away from the park im happy i didnt and the only reason i feel this way is because every friday night and all day saturday n sunday they have sports games there and the road is beyond packed there is no way i could stand having ppl park infront onside and all over the front of my house; Theres been many times i wittnessed the home owners not being able to get outta there driveways.

What I would do then is drive around the area a few nights if you have time to see if anything weird is going on and if it's pretty quiet then I would say go ahead and go see the house...

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
my sis lived across the street from park and it had alot of traffic by house going into park. Plus there was drug dealing in the park.
I would drive the area at all different times during the day and check out what its like before.

Because you are asking us if WE would buy that house, Id honestly say it would be a huge deal breaker. We did not even entertain looking at houses near parks, schools or any place that could be used as an after hours hang out or with a lot of traffic - gates or not.

You are in the total mindset as DH..and I totally agree with him MOSTLY...It's actually the town I grew up in...and we refuse to look at houses by schools etc...but I know the park isn't that busy of a place in general, but then again, I'm basing it on what I knew the town to be like when I was growing up, so I obviously things most likely have changed in the past 15 years..I just think I really love the style house and the price (and I do think the price is reflective of the fact that it's across the street from the park) I'm just trying to convince myself that it's not a problem, when it is for us...

If it's the area I'm thinking, I wouldn't. It's super busy all during the day on weekends.

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
I have a field right across from me and I absolutly LOVE it! It is part of a school. We do not get any traffic from the school since the building is around the block. In the 2 years here we have never had an issue w/ kids hanging out here (but then again the park & building are nowhere near us). I love not having houses across from us. Looking out our window to a beautiful open field.
As far as traffic....2-3 nights a week and sometimes on a Saturday afternoon the little league has games. Otherwise, my block is like a dead end! The games do not bother me at all. It's for a few hrs a week, plus we enjoy sitting outside and watching the kids

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field
NO
Too many unknowns for me
People letting dogs poop and leaving it
Kids gathering at night
Kids setting things on fire
These are all things my friend who lives across from a park deals with

If there was no double yellow line or a busy road yes.
I wish I lived in walking distance to a park.
