would you even bother cleaning carpet?

we closed on a hosue about 2 weeks ago. doing minor work (floors/painting) before we move in. so last week, apparently one of the workers stuffed up a toilet, and I went into hosue friday mornign0 huge flood in bathroom. thankfully, did nto drip onto floors- it all went straight down an AC vent, into crawl space/mud? under hosue
heres my dillemma- we ended up wtih wet carpet in basement too. assuming its from water running for so long under house. basement did NOT have to be pumped, not a measurable amount of water, but a roughly 3 feet x2 feet area of carpet got wet. i've been runnign dehumidifer/fan. i can get a carpet complany in tomorrow to do what they call water extraction from carept and sanitize/ptu an antiobacterial down. they want $250. you think its worth it? dh thinks its a waste, says we will probably have ot pull up carpet anyhow. fwiw, i am plannign on having all the carpets cleaned before we move, but thats standard carpet cleaning.
wwyd? do the water teamtent or not?
btw, if we pull up, would put tile down. but would liek to avoid the extra expoense if possible.

1. If the workers caused the damage, they should pay for the repairs .

2. Our basement has been wet twice (both caused by workers screwing stuff up) and the first time it was soaked through in a large area. They came back and used a wet vac on the area nd then pulled up the carpet, set up a large fan and dehumidifier and it dried completely without mold. they put it back down and it was OK. This weekend the same area got wet again, not as much, and DH ended up doing the wet vac (we have a smaller one) and pulling up the carpet. Our padding had to be tossed and will need to be replaced but the carpet seems like it will still be OK. Super annoying though.

I would def pull up the carpet and make sure it dries fully so you dont get mold. And I would have the workers pay for the fix...

I agree with the PP.

Also a basement is generally not priority when you first move in.

Why have it dirty and hanging around if it can be cleaned?

Waste of money, unless your contractor is paying for it (Which he SHOULD)

We've had water in our basement numerous times - if anything, replace the padding. but if you suck up as much as possible w/ the wet vac, pull back the rug and run the dehumidifiers the carpet will dry out fine .......
