Would you get mad if someone close to you took " your name" ?

You know that name that you have thought up already and will name your child one day.

So if a friend or family member got PG first and used the name would you get upset?
Would you pick a different name when the time came or still stick with the name you love?

I would be livid, but I would get over it quick. I would probably use the same name and just hope that my child is nicer, smarter, and better looking.

depends on how close we are - for example:

my cousin's daughter's name is Cameron. They live in VA, I see them once every 4 years probably. My DH and I like the name Cameron and we were wondering if it would cause a problem if we have a daughter and name her that. I think it would only be weird when we are in the same house for a party or something!

YES!
Even bothered me that a friend of a friend ...one whom i am also friendly with did it.

She was PG and was asking us about names we wanted and i told her Emily....

Now her daughters name is Emily...

I won't use it because her daughter is a terror and and i think of that everytime i hear the name...

yes, someone already did - the exact same "irish" first and middle name that I picked for my baby (when I have one), she took it!! She's Jewish...it doesnt fit. I was so mad.

Thats why I never tell anyone the names that we are thinking of!

A little, it's funny because my dh's supervisor at work was pregnant and she was trying to use Alia as her daughter's name but then she named her Ashlea.

No...my brother and my cousin (my dad and his sister) both names their boys David after their deceased father. Growing up it was always big David and little David.

It would annoy me to pieces if my family / friend knew that I Loved a particular name and they used it.

But - i would have to take into account, that I told them the name beforehand and that they had a baby before i did......so in part, i would kinda of feel at fault for not keeping my big mouth shut..lol

Just to add - it would bother me more, if a family member used the name i loved instead of a friend.

Family would actually annoy me MORE than a Friend.. I dont see how I could have a child and name them the same thing as their cousin or something

Everyone follows the tradition of naming after grandparents so ALL the cousins have the same names...
3 nicks, 3 graziella's , etc.

Now my son was the first Anthony but when my BIL and SIL start having kids if they both have boys they will be Anthony's as well... so now 3 Anthony's in this family and all first cousins

if i really wanted it i would name it that reguardless.

i used ot have my heart set on naming my duaghter Olivia, and trhen DH's sister said i cant cuz she wants that anem if she ever has a ababy again,

If I told this friend or family member about the name then yes I would be annoyed.

If we had a girl we were going to name her Gabrielle. My second cousin just had her daughter a few weeks ago and she named her Gabrielle. I'm not upset bc we never talked about names. So I doubt I'll use the name now.

I would like to say that it wouldn't bother me- but it would, depending on the circumstance. If it was a name I really loved and told that person how much I loved it, and they had no family with that name or no other connection to the name, I would be unhappy. Depending on who it was, I may pick another name.

For example, DH's best friend named his child my grandfather's name (totally not knowing that I had any desire to use that name). I was not mad at all. I would still name my child that, but DH doesn't want to.

It depends on the situation, and which name.

For example: My aunt's friend wanted to name a baby after my grandmother. I'm split on this, for a number of reasons. 1- she's not family, 2-seeing as my aunt can't have children, I've got "dibs" on my Grandmother's name, 3- She was *my* grandmother! She died on *my* birthday! *I* look like her (to a disturbing extent)!

But then I thought about it, and this woman's kids won't ever see mine, so it's not like there will be any confusion or anything. So I eased up on it.

I wouldn't tell the name for exactly that reason. And if I did tell the name I would make sure I didn't mind them taking it.

This happened with my cousin. She was PG about 1 1/2 yrs ago and didn't know the sex. We were discussing names and I decided to share with her a name I always liked that incorporated our Grandmother's name. She loved it. I said "You can use it if you want because I won't be having kids for awhile so I could change my mind by then (little did I know ) or if I still like it, I'll use it anyway."

I still love the name but she ended up having a boy (and so did I) so it wasn't an issue.

The problem is though, now that I've shared it with her, she may share it with someone else who I WOULD mind if they used it. That's why it's better just to keep it to yourself!

I would guess no...because I was kin dof in the situation. I would be more mad if someone told me not to use a name who isn't pregnant because that is what they liked (was also in that situation).

I had a named picked for a girl right away. DH and I knew from the beginning. So when I told people the name - I found out my brother and SIL loved the same name for a girl but they weren't even pregnant (but they did get pregnant while I was pregnant). So I didn't have a girl and 6 months later they did - so they got the name first and middle name too! I thought I would be disappointed because now I can't use it but I am very happy to have an Allison in my family!!! I would never use the first name but I would consider the middle name since it means something to both Dh and I.

But when I first announced my pregnancy another person in the family asked me what names did you pick and I said it is very early and we haven't decided (we were less than 8 weeks) and they told me well these are names I like so don't use these and gave me a list of like 4 names or so. The person wasn't even pregnant or from what I know at the time trying. That upset me. I am so not into calling names.

It would annoy me alot!
But I dont think I would change what I wanted to name my child because of it.

Yes it would bother me. Because then I would have to find another name for my child.
