Would YOU go to the doctor for a sore throat that
just won't go away??? I've had a sore throat since this weekend. Its starting to get itchy (hence making me cough and it hurt more) and feel swollen. I hate going to the doctor and them telling me its virual and just wait it out.

YES!
i didn't a few months back and it turned out i had a really bad infection-it was awful  and only got worse and morphed into a horrible cough. not saying thats what you have but it is just a good idea!

Do you have a fever? If so I'd go to MD. If not I'd probably drink lots of tea with lemon and honey, and gargle lots of salt water and give it a week to run it's course then maybe call MD if it's still as bad or gets worse.
Do you still have tonsils? I do and I can get a nasty sore throat from time to time that usually takes about a week to go away, gargling helps a lot.
