DS is really sick for the first time - Fever, ear infection and sore throat - btdt moms any advice?
My poor DS! I have no idea how he got sick! But, I am so thankful to God that we made it this long (10 months) without DS ever getting really sick! This is so hard! Anyway - DS is now on antibiotics (amoxicillan sp?) and I am giving him tylenol because without it his fever is going too high :( As a first time mom - I am a nervous wreck over here (even though I know this is nothing!) Can I ask you ladies -
Any tips on how to help him feel better fast and prevent this from ever coming back?
Any complications I need to watch out for with ear infections?
Any tips on how to get him to actually swallow the entire dosage of the antibiotic and tylenol?
Is it really ok to give him tylenol every four hours all day at this age?
Do I need to wake him in the middle of the night to give him tyleonl? (if god willing he sleeps?) Do I give it to him if he wakes up? (this will be dose 5 for today) - At 5.5 hrs post tylenol today his fever went up to 103 - with the tyleonl it has been hovering b/w 100.2 and 101.5. DH had febrile seizures as a kid and I am petrified of this
Thanks to all who are up to help out!

First things first tons of to you and DS Ear infections really stink. Ava gets them often and it's no fun. As for waking him, definitely don't. If he's sleeping, then that's the best thing for him. I always find with Ava that to make her more comfortable while she sleeps, I slightly elevate her mattress so there's not too much pressure in her ears. As for preventing it, I'm not sure I know the answer to that. But give him lots of love and comfort

if his fever isn't coming down enough, you can alternate between tylenol and motrin. tylenol every 4, and motrin every 6. we do this to make sure a fever doens't go too high. the motrin will also bring hte fever down much better, faster and longer than the tylenol will. you can start using motrin after 6 months. my dd just got over roseola. we were alternating the meds to keep her fever down to normal, especially at night.
as for night shift, jsut get the dropper in his mouth while he sleeps. he'll take the meds and probably won't wake up. i was doing this last week.

So sorry he's going through this. DS just had his first real sickness, including a double ear infection. The Motrin really made a difference for him as the Tylenol just lowered the fever a little. But every kid is different.

I completely agree with motrin. It is the ONLY thing that really lowered his fevers..tylenol prob helped it to stay low (i alternated like PP stated).
He'll be just fine..it's scary though when they are sick for the first time. A lot has to do with how they're tolerating the fever...some kids can act completely fine at 103 and others lethargic at 101. It depends on the child. Hopefully he feels better soon!!!
