Would you look for a new contractor?
So DH and I feel like we're getting the run around with our landscape contractor. We're totally redoing our back yard and were told it would be done by mid June or the 3rd week at the latest. The start date kept getting pushed back to the point where we were told it would be done by July 4th. Nope.
Last week we were so excited when they FINALLY started and did a bit of demo. We were told they'd be back the next week and each day we'd text them after no one would show. We'd be told they would be there the next day, then the next. They are a large company and we're getting different stories from different people. "We're waiting for fill" "We're waiting for the pavers". One guy says they'll be in "in a day or two" the other says he doesn't know when they'll be in.
We are getting curt responses when we text the project manager to ask when they'll start or when the supplies will be ready. We're afraid to get too pushy with them becuase we don't want then to do a bad job. We haven't given them any money yet and DH is thinking of just going with another company.
Is this par for the course with contractors? What would you do?

Re: Would you look for a new contractor?
Yes.
DH has his own (small) business doing a ton of outdoor work and has stated this is often one of the problems that come up with the larger companies.
While it could happen with a smaller one too, to be left in the dark constantly is unacceptable.
I know on occasion DH runs into issues with materials delivery or reliability if it's a job with multiple contractors, but at the very least, the head should be in contact with you every step of the way to communicate.
We have a friend who has also worked for a couple of well-known landscape design companies on Long Island and has gone multiple times without getting paid.

Would you look for a new contractor?
Absolutely, especially since you haven't given them any money.

That is awful! You should be able to hire somebody else but before you do check if you have a contract? What is the language for termination? Even if there is no contract, you might get billed for services rendered and product purchased. I know it sucks! Before you terminate the contract, write a letter to the head of the company detailing all the delays and include the texts and calls made. Maybe that will get the ball rolling. Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses, glad to hear we're not being unreasonable! We're giving it one last chance, DH spoke with them today and supposedly they'll start next week. I just want our yard done already! Ugh.
