I’m sure I will get some judgement for this, by my 5 year olds daycare has been opened this whole time and I’m thinking of sending him back next week. They are welcoming kids to come. They need the money frankly. I’m working from home and he’s suffering from lack of socialization among other things being home this long. Many of you said you would send your kids back to school if they reopen this month so I’m curious what people think of this. They have new policies where parents drop off in the hallway to minimize how many people enter the classrooms. They all wear masks and they have new hand washing regulations.

Would you send them?

I wouldn’t. There is no way to stop young kids from touching each other. You have to do what is best for your family. For now, I am not ready to send my daughter back to school yet.

I would not. I work in the hospital and to be quite frank when schools open up, I’m going to be keeping my boys home. This will increase again, I am mentally and physically exhausted. I can’t take seeing this in front of me anymore. Personally I have enough to worry about working in the hospital, I can’t worry about what they could be potentially exposed to and as a courtesy to others, I don’t want my kids bringing to school whatever I could be bringing home from the hospital. I think it’s a personal choice and what works best for you and what you are comfortable with. I would look at what their policies are, how many kids are in a class, screening procedures, changes in sanitation etc

Re: Would you send them?

Yes as this is not going to just disappear and while it is supposedly working from being home, who really knows if it will be and it is ok to get out with others.

I would. Kids under 10 do not tend to show any symptoms of having Corona except in the rare reported cases. The virus will be here forever and I cant quit to be a SAHM.

Yep. What day WILL it all of a sudden be safe to send kids?. The day Cuomo announces it is?
If the place is open, they must have procedures in place.
And like you said, it's really low risk in kids.
So unless I was living with an elderly or high risk person I would have no issue sending her

The fact that children under 10 do not show symptoms makes them the perfect vector to spread this virus. In the absence of symptoms we assume the children are healthy and let them all play together at day care then go home in the evening to their families who could then be infected- not showing symptoms and shedding the virus before onset of symptoms is one of the reasons virologist are calling Covid 19 a “perfect virus” the only thing that gives us a chance to develop a vaccine quickly (which in biomedical research is never all the quick) is that it is not mutating quickly.
The virus will persist but the hope is to have a better understanding of it in order to save lives.

I absolutely would. My son is in pre-k.
He goes to kiddie academy. The only reason I am not sending him at the moment is for financial reasons. We don’t know what’s going to happen with my husband’s job. He is currently furloughed but getting unemployment and I’d rather save the Weekly fee in the event there are additional layoffs. The flip side of that coin is if he is asked to come back and schools are not open, we will need to send both kids, 5 and 7 which will cost double per week. We are paying a much smaller weekly fee to hold our place in case that happens. I know they are cleaning and disinfecting like crazy. If we were in financial shape to do so I would absolutely be sending him as he needs the social interaction. They are doing zoom classes but it’s not the same.

Yes, I would. The class size will also probably be much smaller so that is a plus. Where are you located? Is this in NY?

No way. Are they even allowed to be open right now?? You don’t know hiw these other families are living their loves and now younwould be exposing your child to their children, and he can be a silent carrier and bring it home to you.

NYC daycares are closed, but a lot of Long Island centers are open.

They are allowed, in fact required to be opened. Considered essential, to care for the children of essential employees. They are all taking extra precautions.

Mine go. We're essential and don't see anyone aside from work, daycare and the occasional store run.

Yes, some are actually. Especially if they normally do before and after care or camp for school age children.

Re: Would you send them?

yes but are kids expected to wear masks? Just wondering cause i feel like kids wearing masks for extend period of time is useless noway would it ever stay on properly and they would just be playing with them.

As others said. I dont get when we are supposed to say ok we can go back now

Its not going away; are people waiting for what a vaccine, a cure?

Also if you say not to sending your kids out are you telling me you will just stay in your house and not go anywhere till when?

People really forget that not everyone can be bunkered at home and work from home. Also if you aren’t suppose to see your family you aren’t living with, who is watching these kids??

Both my cousin and her husband still have to go in to work, so her daughter has been going to pre-K this whole time.

I would send my child. The risk would be low for me. But I also threatened to drop my son off in front of his school today, so that’s basically where I’m at right now. Chat Icon
