Would you take a road trip with your newborn?
I am scheduled for a C-Section on August 3rd. I would love to drive up to Virginia to take my DS to either Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion. My will of course be a newborn if I do it about 2-3 weeks after she is born. Am I crazy for doing this? Please let me know your opinions.

my friend drove from the buffalo area to north carolina for her friend's wedding when her newborn was only a couple of weeks old. she said her baby was absolutely fine, but I think every baby is different!

we drove from NY to Harrisonburg VA when DS was 3 weeks old and he was an angel! We stopped twice to feed and change him (no more than 15 minutes) and he slept the whole time.

I don't think YOU will be healed and up for walking around busch gardens after having a c section. A newborn is a lot of work. You will probably still be adapting to the new addition to the family.
I personally wouldn't book anything and I love trips. JMO.

Re: Would you take a road trip with your newborn?
Before I gave birth I wuold have said OH YES. HELLZ YES.
Now that she is here and I see just what a newborn is like- NO WAY! HELLZ NO!
We can barely take her in the car to run some errands at this age. She is so unpredictable and screams bloody murder at inopportune times. We never know when she will need to eat, be burped or be changed. It's pretty hard to plan ANYTHING- especially a road trip.
Plus my Dr told me not to have her in crowds until at least 4 months when she gets some shots- I dont' think walking around a theme park- especially in the heat- is a good idea with a baby that new...

Re: Would you take a road trip with your newborn?
the only thing that I would really worry about is that the baby is not going to have his/her shots and thats a very public place- I wouldnt want the baby to catch anything
jmo but I wouldnt chance it

Re: Would you take a road trip with your newborn?
I think all babies are different, so the car ride could be hit or miss. I just think being in an amusement park with an infant would be really difficult, especially in the heat.

Re: Would you take a road trip with your newborn?
No, I would not. First of all, you will not be healed enough to go to those kinds of places or comfortable for that many hours in a car. Then with the baby, you will have to stop every 2-3 hours to feed/change etc, plus being up all night doing these things. I don't think it would be safe to drive while being sleep deprived. IMO it would be better to wait until the baby is 2-3 months before taking any kinds of trips like that.

Re: Would you take a road trip with your newborn?
I don't think the car ride is the problem, its the amusement park. its going to be hot, and all those people. When I interviewed a pediatrician he said no crowds for the first 4-6 weeks.

We drove to Maryland when DS was 6 weeks old and he was great the way there, the way home we hit so much traffic it was a disaster!
