What happened?

it was a show about sex offenders and predators that hunt for kids onlineChat Icon Also at some point the guest(former sergeant or somebody) said that sometimes when they do search warrants they find random pics of infants and 2-3 yrs old that are downloaded from different websites, like facebook and myspace for their own " sexual gratification" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Isn't that why you can choose who can see your pics on FB? Although it's true you just never know...

you really never do , it's so scary. I think anyone can copy them, plus if you are in the same network with someone they can still see your profile and pics(I think)

there are some real animals out there.

They don't even get that much time in prison. It just seems like you can't rehabiliate those kind of people.

That's why as bad as I want to show my DD to everyone here, I just can't do it. I would hate for anyone I "dont" want to see pics seeing them. Chat Icon

You can control who sees what on FB. You just need to check your settings....

I refuse to let a couple of sickos control who and what I am.

Same for me too. That's why I never really posted pictures of my daughter and my son well now that he is almost a year I have stopped posting pictures of him.

FB has settings so you can choose exactly who can see it and who can't. FB is a lot safer than here in so many ways.

not true... you can set the photos to be only seen by friends... (the option you're mentioning is seen by friends of friends)

I have pics on facebook, but only friends have access... and my friend list is under 30 people... it's safe Chat Icon

Re: wow after seeing today's Oprah, I feel like taking down all of DD's pics

Quite honestly, this is not something that worries me. I just can't live my life worrying that some sicko MIGHT be getting off over a picture of my daughter. Don't get me wrong, it would be horrible, but I just don't live my life worrying about that because when it comes down to it, that poses no threat to my daughter. Flame away if you'd like, but that's how I feel. My cousin was molested by her own father, as are many children in this world. That doesn't mean that I will try to protect my daughter from her own father, does it? I don't know, I do the best I can to keep my child safe in the real world right now, beyond that, I don't worry. Now, when she gets to be older and uses the internet herself, that's a whole new ball game.

I was thinking along the same lines... Of course I don't want anyone using any pics of my children obviously... but I don't think it puts them into any more danger than if some perv didn't have their pics...

I'm with you on that one! and you too Rachel, I just think its not worth worrying about. There are too many risks in my own backyard to worry about (traffic, teenage binge drinking and drugs etc)

I have very few friends on there as well and just friends can see it. I wasn't sure about the network thing , that's why I said "I think". But thanks for clarifying it Chat Icon

Oh no , I know exactly what you mean, I know not posting pics won't keep my DD safe. I just worry anyway, can't help it, plus after I saw yesterday's Oprah I was really in shock. It was just so sad and so scaryChat Icon

ITA! I post pics on here and FB and will not stop. This really isn't any new development.

On FB you choose who can look at your pictures.

I feel the same.

There are sickos everywhere. Unfortunately they don't need pics of your kid to feed their fantasy. I could be worried that the guy in the mall looking at his phone might actually have been snapping a pic of my son with it to 'use' later. Or someone in the bleachers at the game is not really interested in watching the kids play football.. but is memorizing what they see to recall for their own gratification later. I can't determine the motivations of every person that will look at my children during the course of their life - but I can make sure that they are informed and watched as well as humanly possible. And I can pray.

I kinda feel the same way....I feel like I can limit my risks and his risks as much as I can, but Life is a bunch of what if's and this is one I just choose to be more lenient about, plain and simple.

But like you, once he CAN go online himself, I will be stricter.

I could have written this word for word... I can not worry about sick people *looking* at a picture.
