$285K in Holbrook
def needs work, but it's on almost 1/2 an acre!

that's what the forecasts were saying. My friend who used to be a realtor for 20 years says by January the market will be low enough that sales will be better.

i have mortgage bankers telling me people will be begging me to take their house in january - no one can really predict whats going to happen, but prices are definitely starting to fall.

For once I agree...and the price is amazing for the land. That's a decent mortgage...you fix that up and you're golden. And it's in a very desirable LI SD.
The kitchen looks nice and airy and lots of light...and the rooms look like a decent size.

that house just came on the market 10/2 - at that same price - so no decrease there.
1. it needs a TOTAL gutting
2. the seller is requesting that all offers be subject to "seller conditions" 
(amongst other things)
3. located directly behind that house: POWERLINES!!

I agree with Redhead, something about those pics makes me think it would need TONS of work. I wouldn't get excited that the price might be reflective of other houses.

with the stock market doing so well, it is a much better investment, imo. It takes a lot longer for cycles in real estate to come around than it does for the stock market.

that's absolutely right. people won't be in such a rush to flip houses anytime soon.
the housing market is going through a correction now. the prices were/are absolutely INSANE in many parts of the country. people in this area that thought a ranch would ever be worth $700K in an avg. neighborhood are fooling themselves. the economy here cannot sustain these prices.

I don't know that much about Holbrook and the prices there, so my opinion really doesnt mean much - but that house looks terrible. And with power lines right behind, i dont care if it's a 1/2 acre - you couldnt pay me to live there.......

Do you know what street it is on? I live in Holbrook and don't recognize it.

I have to agree. I live in Holbrook and know the price of houses here and I would bet there are hidden problems with that house.
