WOW! Took my first spin class last night
I have been very very intimidated by the thought of taking a spin class. My friend called me yesterday and said that there was a 30minute class at our gym. I was all over that knowing there was no way I could last for an hour spin class just yet.
Well, let me just say - this class is hard! My ****** is killing me today but I really liked it. I take Zumba classes all the time and I have to say I think this 30 minute class equaled the same intensity as one of the 1hr Zumba classes.
I will def. be going back, and will hopefully work my way into the hour class. If you are thinking of trying it, you should absolutely do it! You can really go at your own pace if you can't keep up!

Do your places turn off the lights? I've heard about that and was wondering how common that is - bc she didn't do it last night!

I have been really wanting to take it but you are suppose to take the intro class first which they only offer mondays at 7:30 and that is a hard time for me to go.

My gym has a black room and bright lights with super loud music.

Re: WOW! Took my first spin class last night
My gym turns off the lights, but there are still emergency lights that stay on so it's not totally dark.
Adrianna-My gym has an intro class too, but I'm sure if you just show up early they will get you set up on the bike. The instructors at my gym always ask if there's anyone new and help them get set up before class. I think they understand that not everyone can make it for that special class. The most important thing is that you have the bike adjusted properly...the rest you'll be able to figure out and follow along with.

They usually do but I have been to classes where the instructor has not.

Re: WOW! Took my first spin class last night
I want to try one at my gym, but I don't think they have 30 min. ones. I am 60 pounds overweight and just starting getting into working out a few weeks ago. Not sure I could keep up.

My cousin who is into spin hardcore said that people leave the hour classes early all the time. I'm not sure if I have enough guts to walk out halfway through, but she said people do!

Try it, get to the class a few minutes early and introduce yourself to the instructor. Tell them it is your first class and they will set you up on the bike properly. Don't worry about keeping up with everyone else. You can keep your resistance lower on the flywheel and don't have to do the standing positions. Do what is comfortable

Re: WOW! Took my first spin class last night
You can absolutely go to a class without the intro. Go early and tell the instructor this is your first class. They will help you get set up on the bike. A good instructor will actually ask that at the beginning of the class just to make sure! Also, it is totally acceptbale to leave early if you need to as well as do what feels right (meaning no jumps, sprints, standing climbs) if you are new. The reason I love spin and chose to certify in it is that you can really tailor the workout to be what is best for YOU! Good luck!
oh and get a gel seat...it helps with the discomfort!
