Wow...the how much left over money thread got me very sad!
Seriously, what jobs do people have that they have $3,000 to $5,000 a month left over?
to those that have that and I mean that sincerely! I hope someday I can join you!

Re: Wow...the how much left over money thread got me very sad!
Trust me, Dh and I have paid our dues big time. I'm an attorney and he owns and manages a mutual fund that invests in Israeli companies.
I was dead broke in law school, living on about $7k a year. When I met Dh, he had just started his company - he was 32 years old and living in his business partner's spare bedroom in his basement because the company, at that point, wasn't earning ANY money.
When we met, for the first year we were living on $30,000 a year. I really have no idea how we made our mortgage payments for that first year!
But, then I got out of law school, and got my first job, and DH's company started taking off.
I assure you, we fully appreciate what we have

Re: Wow...the how much left over money thread got me very sad!
We usually have at least $3K left over and don't have ridiculous salaries.
Dont be sad, be smart.
We are VERY particular with our spending. We buy only what we need, and do massive amounts of research for big purchases.
We never play the "it's my money, I earned it, so Im entitled to a splurge" card, that's always going to set you back..

I'll take "Never in our lifetime" for 3000, Alex...
Anything left over goes to child support. And its not that much...

My DH is currently in grad school, we barely make 3000 a month after taxes, let alone to have it left over. We do try and save at least 1-1.5k a month though

Re: Wow...the how much left over money thread got me very sad!
i was one of those people. DH and i probably have about $3000 left each month. we don't have amazing paying careers, either... i'm a speech therapist in a school, so i make what a teacher makes, and DH is a mechanical engineer, he works for the department of defense. we enjoy our money, too! so i don't know how we have so much left over each month!! we go out to eat at least twice a week, and do things with our friends all the time that cost money. we've gone on a few trips this year, too. i also have a car payment every month on my new SUV. i think we just don't go nuts. any remodeling on the house, DH does himself so that saves a ton of money. i also don't shop for clothes unless i absolutely need something. we got lucky with school loans, because DH got a full tuition scholarship to a state school and made the sacrifice to live at home all 4 years so that he wouldn't have any student loans. i have student loans, but they're small because i consolidated a few years back with a good rate. we also got lucky in that ILs had to move, and we were able to buy their hosue from them with a good interest rate and at a little lower than " market value". its not my IDEAL house, but its in decent shape, has plenty of room for kids in the future, and is in a great neighborhood... sure i would love to have my dream house, but this was a way for us to afford a nice house without being " house poor", so we did it... i think its all in the choices people make and where they choose to put their money...
