WTH - credit score question
So I use creditkarma.com to check my credit score (it is a 100% free site)
anyway, I am using made up scores for illustrations purposes
my credit score on 3.1.10 was 710. I then paid off alot of my credit cards, with part of my bonus and on 4.1.10, I check the score again and it was 729
I just checked it today and it says my score is 667 - how the hell could this have happened...I have not used my credit cards at all since the 729 score, I did not open any new cards, etc
any ideas?

Re: WTH - credit score question
seems like a big change in less than a month- did any of your cards get cancelled or credit limits decreased- that might affect it?
also- do they draw the info from all 3 credit bureaus or just one? if they are averaging all 3 it might change?

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
this is the official site to check your report at all 3 bureaus. You are entitled to a free report every year at this site.

Re: WTH - credit score question
definitely get your report. inquiries and requests from creditors will knock you a few points temporarily, but thats a big drop.
if you use freecreditreport.com beware b/c we got charged 14.95 amonth for something for a few months before i realized.

Re: WTH - credit score question
Out of curiosity, I ran my score and I was surprised that it was not higher. I have paid everything on time for the last several years and pay off my cc's in full every month. There was a time when I was struggling with money but that was several years ago (like 10) and my score is only slightly higher now than it was then (and it wasn't horrible then, just not great.)

Re: WTH - credit score question
Anyone (or company) can issue a credit score based on their own algorithm. But just about all the banks/major lenders use one of the Fair Isaac credit scores--those issued by one of the 3 major credit scoring agencies. Because each company uses a proprietary algorithim, your score can vary even though the information is the same.
I would check your score with the 3 credit agencies and go from there. The annual credit report website is great for a free credit report but you will have to pay to see your actual score.

Your actual FICO score can only be checked using www.myfico.com if I recall correctly. I would check there first and then see. The other sites give out estimated FICOs..not actual.

FYI: The score on your credit report is not your actual FICO score unless it specifically says so. It's an estimate of your FICO score. In order to get your true FICO score you have to pull it from www.myfico.com
