WWYD - FET or Fresh
Hi ladies,
I always turn to LIF to get opinions and advice so here I am. We're gearing up for round 4 IVF at the end of March. 1 BFN 2&3 BFP with early losses(6w3d and 6w1d). Had a lap at the end of Dec and I had a lot of endo removed (i had no symptoms so I was quite surprised). Also, got dx with a blood clotting disorder so we'll be adding lovenox. We have 3 totsicles from our last cycle. We have enough insurance left to cover 2 fresh cycles. Our original thought was to use our fresh cycles to try to get more totsicles in case we maxed out insurance before a BFP. As you all know, FETs are a lot cheaper and more managable OOP. If we had more frosties we'd have a few FET cycles. Now I'm second guessing myself and wondering if we should try a FET instead. I was always under the impression that FETs weren't as successful. I'm so confused and would love some opinions. WWYD?????
TIA

Re: WWYD - FET or Fresh
Hmm.. As far as FETs not being as successful, they definitely ARE. I got pregnant pregnant from my last FET as well as so many other women on this board The way my RE explained it to me... with the newer technology these days the way the embryos are frozen and thawed (I forget what the process is called) it puts the success rate just about on par with a fresh cycle.
In the meantime, I think if it were me I would just do another fresh since it's covered and JUST IN CASE, the FETs are so much more manageable from a financial standpoint.. OR, best case scenario, you get pregnant and have your baby, and then you have lots of frosties down the line for future cycles/siblings
That's my opinion anyway.... Of course an FET is less stress/drugs than an fresh cycle but still at this point if it were me, I'd just go for the fresh.

Re: WWYD - FET or Fresh
Thanks!! You put my mind at ease. I can always count on you to put things into perspective. The whole FET issue was just the impression I had. I've never spoken to RE about the success, but thanks for explaining it's nice to know that there's still a good shot whether it be for my first or second child......who needs an RE when they have Pennycat!!! I think you are more knowledgable than some REs out there, if only there were a way for you to start your own practice

Re: WWYD - FET or Fresh
Aww thanks!!! I'd gladly open up my own practice to subsidize the surrogacy costs!!
If you look at national statistics, the FET success rate is lower but that's because the newer process to freeze the embryos (vitrification!! that's the word I was looking for!!) .. isn't used everywhere. You can ask your place if this is the method they use, but I'm sure NYU is up on all the latest!!
eta: My surrogate will be doing an FET (hopefully all it will take is one round!!) because we have 10 frozen embryos already!!

Re: WWYD - FET or Fresh
I think FRESH is best! But I've also gotten a BFP like you and Penny with a FET. Most embryologists (at the labs that I've consulted with) use vitrification now anyway so the thawing rates will be higher.
You have the coverage, so go for it!
Lots of luck!
ETA: Also happy that you had the lap! I think your uterus will be happy with the Fresh estrogen rather than FET delestrogen or vivielle!

Posted by KMCGK I think your uterus will be happy !
Some people worry about making themsleves, their kids, their pets and their DHs happy. Not us infertiles......we worry about making our uteruses (uteri however your pluralize it) happy!! At least the journey of infertility has given me alot of laughs
