WWYD - sick DC & daycare

I am not sure if I am wrong or not but this morning I said something to another mom at DS's daycare about dropping her DC off at the center sick. Last year she dropped him off with the Croup and DS got it 2 days later. DS was out this path Thurs & Fri from an ear infection and Bronchitis. My ped said he can return to daycare 24hrs after he is on antibiotics. Low and behold she told me her son was sick for the past weeks with fever, bronchitis and diarrhea! He was in the daycare at those times Chat Icon

I told her that it is inconsiderate to the children and parents when you bring him in sick.

Does your DC go to daycare sick or am I just neurotic?

No way! A running nose, no fever, etc - then yes - that's not contagious and it's likely teething.

Bronchitis and diarrea - helz no! A) I don't want other kids getting it and B) if my child is sick then I don't think it's the daycare's responsibility to care for them - I want to be there or have my DH with him.

I don't send him back until he hasn't had a fever, vomiting or diarreha for 24 hours, as per the doctor.

I don't want the other kids OR the teachers to get anything from him, but I also don't want him miserable and sick at daycare, I'd rather keep him home. I don't have a lot of time off from work right now, but I can afford to lose a day's pay if he is so sick that he shouldn't be going in.

Re: WWYD - sick DC & daycare

The only time DD went to day care with diarrhea was because it was a reaction to the antibiotics she had been on and she wasn't actually sick anymore... but I kept her home while was sick and initially taking the antibiotics. But if it was due to a stomach virus or bronchitis or a fever NO WAY!

She always has a runny nose though, and I can't keep her home for that. I had her home for 2 weeks (first week she was sick, the second week I had vacation scheduled) so she was perfectly healthy when I sent her back. Within 2 days she had a sniffle again.

I don't send DD to daycare until she has been fever free for 24 hours. I would not send her if she is ill with bronchitis/diahrea.

Nope! When he is sick, he's home. There is one parent in particular who has a child in his class who will do the "drop and run" when her child is sick. It's stupid because they just call her back to come pick the child up but by then, all the other kids have been exposed.

I hate inconsiderate people.

I don't send Chelsea in if she has a fever. She had had a runny nose and cough though for months now and I can't keep her home for that.

Re: WWYD - sick DC & daycare

I try to be very mindful of other kids when mine are sick. I keep them home if they have diarrhea, a fever, cough with green mucous.

At Nate's last daycare, a mom sent her kid with a stomach virus. DS and a few other kids ended up sick. When the owner sent the kid home and asked her why she sent him, she said that she was sick with the virus and couldn't watch him. It wasn't the first time she sent her son sick so the owner let the kid go.

My daycare is pretty strict about these things... I would be upset too if I were you. It really isn't fair. I've sent her with colds, but nothing really more than that. Knock on wood she's never had a fever.
