WWYD? - Travelling to Big Sur next week
We are heading to San Fran on Thursday and making our way down the coast to LA over 9 days. That part is  , but I'm now concerned about the fires in Northern California.
We are staying at various places along the way, but one that is definite is 2 nights at a cabin in Big Sur, in about 10 days time. From what I have read, Big Sur seems to be the worst affected area right now. I would have to cancel the accommodation well in advance to get a refund. Do you think we should cancel and book somewhere else, or hold out in the hope that they will contain the fires and we'll be able to enjoy the forest hikes, etc.

I actually would hold out. its a lot of days away, and it might actually be interesting to see. I;m sure the lodge will not let you stay there if its in danger. And i'm sure they are issuing refunds if you can't stay there. I'd wing it, its a lot more fun that way.
Have a great time, I'm so jealous I want to do that kind of trip there so badly!!

My brother lives east of SF and he said the smoke is pretty bad up there.
Can you re-arrange your trip so you arrive in LA and drive up the coast? That may give you a few more days for the smoke to clear, literally!

where are you staying there? I'm going in August.
We're staying at the Lucia Lodge. There are not that many places and most were booked up already.
Thanks everyone for responding. Big Sur was the place we were looking forward to most, but I think we're going to have to change our plans. I left a message at the lodge to get information from the source. We're staying there towards the end of our trip, so that gives us time but there is a 72 hour cancellation policy for a refund.
