WWYD - weird/awkward/funny situation
I'm sitting in the airport waiting to board a flight. A woman sitting in the same area waived to me and said "hi. Small world! Where are you going?" I made small talk with her but I have NO idea who she is! Lol. I thought maybe she would say something g that would remind me (and even if I don't remember a name I almost always recognize a face ). I feel bad but I really just have no idea who she is

maybe she doesnt know you and that was her "icebreaker" to start a conversation with a stranger.
i would have probably said "do i know you?!" lol

No - she's sitting a couple of rows a away in the waiting area, not right next to me and made a point of waiving across the airport

I would just leave it as is...you shared where you are going, she shared where she is going...and hope that one day in the near future, someone in your friends/family circle will say something like "hey, I heard you ran into _________ at the airport!"
And also scroll through your FB feed and see if anyone you kinda-sorta know has checked in recently at the airport.

LOL! I must look like someone else in town cause I get random people coming up to me and talking to me all the time. Sometimes I look confused and they tell me where they know me from (and it is usually a place I have never been, although once it was a place I go with my kids....). If they seem really invested, I just go along with it and try to exit the conversation ASAP. It is AWKWARD though!

"Im so sorry I think its the environment - out of my daily routine - and my mind is on my trip, but I can't place you at all right now." I'd still be friendly regardless. I would just clarify I felt foolish for not remembering. :D
ETA: to be honest I really am HORRIBLE with names and faces! out of sight out of mind! I had coworkers I spent 3 YEARS with say hello to me once I stared blank back until they said the company name and it flooded back!

Funny thing is she said she was going to her nephew's wedding. We are doing the same - so at first I thought she was a family member (DHs side) that I just didn't remember meeting. But it's a different wedding!
