Awkward situation...WWYD?
A family member had a communion back in May. We could not attend due to a prior family event, but before the communion, we sent a card with a generous check. It was never acknowledged so I began to wonder if they even got it, so over a month later, I approached one of the parents and asked if they got my card, and they simply said "yes thank you." OK so here we are 5 months later and I didn't get a thank you note yet, which is fine, but the weird thing is that when I checked my account, the check was never even cashed! It is kind of messing up my banking and I am also a bit annoyed. But how can I bring this up again without seeming rude? Or do I let it go? Or assume they didn't see the check? Or maybe they are upset with us for some reason? What would you do?

Yeah, see, if a check is outstanding in my ledger that is something I would need to have straightened out. I would call them and say "I just wanted to double check only because I fear that the check got lost in the mail since it has been so long and it has not been cashed". I wouldn't bring up the fact that you mentioned the card and she said she got it -- I would just start new and ask because you are worried since it has never been cashed that perhaps it got lost. Things get lost in the mail all the time so it isn't weird to ask.

That would irritate me. I say just nicely ask if everything was alright since you noticed the check wasn't cashed.

This happened to us too. The check was cashed almost 3 months after the event. Both DH and I lost track of it too.
I would bring it up and see what they say.

I would mention that while reviewing your records you noticed that your check was still uncashed and wanted to make sure that they still had it. Maybe they misplaced the check and may be embarassed to mention anything to you.

Kindly bring it up to them - in today's economic times, we all have to watch and see where our money is! Maybe they misplaced the check somewhere.

My MIL gave my brother and his wife a check for their daughter's christening back in May. They still have not cashed it. I asked my brother if he still has the check and explained to him that if he lost it, it would be no big deal and my MIL would send them a new check with no problem. he said he still has it and to this day still hasn't cashed it. ***? How hard is it to cash a check, they have bank accounts. I just don't get it. MIL just wants them to cash it so she doesn't have to worry about it anymore.

I would absolutely call and just let them know that you were going through your records. Sometimes somebody loses a check and they are too embarrassed to mention it. I would beat her to the punch and say, I noticed that you never cashed my check and wanted to know if everything was ok? I would love to be able to replace the check for little "so and so" if it has been lost.

I would kindly ask one more time. Ask them to get back to you ASAP because you are worried. If you don't hear from them still? I would cancel the check.
