WWYD??

You are in a chain coffee place waiting to place your order. There is a couple ahead of you, already ordered and got their coffees and are chatting with the cashiers/baristas/whatever. So they walk out and you place your order. As you are paying you notice $$ on the floor. There is what appears to be a couple hundred. Bill lying on top is $100 bill so for sake of argument they are all $100's.

Would you pick it up and walk out with it? Or give it back to the couple who are sitting in their truck right in front? You know it's them b/c youjust saw them.

If they were totally gone I'd keep it, but if I saw them outside I'd give it back to them.

Re: WWJD??

If you are positive it is them I'd give it back. If they are right there I would ask if they lost money if they look shocked tell you how much approx then yes otherwise Id probably keep it.

Re: WWJD??

I would give it to the couple and if they were not in their truck, I would give it to the barista. IMHO, If you loose that much $$ you would go back to every place you were that day and retrace your steps. Plus, it may be the ONLY opportunity you have that day, week, or year to restore someone's faith in humanity.

I'd give it back.

I always feel like if something like that happened to me I would only HOPE someone would come after me.

Actually today, I dropped my credit card outside my apt building and one of my neighbors found it and came looking for me...

a *little* different b/c she knew me but I only hope someone who found it would tear it up or try to find me..

Re: WWJD??

Give it back.

I believe too much in karma and would be convinced the money would bring me nothing but headache if I were to keep it.

Now, if you just found that kind of money laying in the street with no one around? I'd say finders keepers.

Re: WWJD??

So I was in DD today when this happened. I picked it up and walked to the truck and knocked on the window. The guy opened the door like "yeah." I said "did u drop this?" he reached into his pocket to check his money clip and said "yeah thats mine."

I cannot begin to describe the look on his face that I gave it back. Him and his wife were grateful and surprised that I just handed it back.

I felt good about giving it back, I know I would want someone to do the same for me.

Thank you.

When I told DH about it, I said I'm either the worlds biggest idiot, or a nice, honest person.

Re: WWJD??

I would give it back in a heartbeat - I don't think the idea to keep it would even cross my mind.

I always try to do the right thing - meaning, if it were me who had dropped the $ I would want someone to return it.

Re: WWJD??

I'd count it, and then, if they were still there, ask them if they lost any money, and if so how much. If I were short a couple hundred dollars, *I'd* notice. If they named the amount, I'd give it back. If they didn't notice they were out the $$, I'd keep it. If they said, "yeah, I lost $20," I'd give them $20 and keep what you found.

Without a doubt I'd give it to them. If it was a significant amount of money, I'd leave my cell phone with the cashier in case they came back.
