wwyd about nanny today?
I WOHM 3x a week. have a nanny 3x a week. she gets legal holidays off and 2 weeks vacation (6 days- since a workweek for her is 3 days) a year. honestly, for 3 horus or so each day, she doesnt do much- db naps and 3 yo in preschool. anyhow, she texted me and called my cell this am- aroudn 7:30- that she cant make it out. i did not hear cell ring, i saw she called around 8ish, and from 8 to 10ish or so, i kept trying to call her. left a message, texted her. no answer- i was pretty po'd. i did not expect her to be in on time- 8:30, but i think by mid mornign, the subway/buses were back up- she takes a bus and A train to get to me. basically, my job is hourly- i dont work, i dont get paid. I am in healthcare, and had a whole day scheduled. Ireally needed to go in, and the roads were fine to drive. i got someone else ot sit- i still got to work 3 hours or so late. nanny did call me around 11ish, she said she was trying to get ot me, she couldn't and her ringer was off/not working? i was driving, couldn't really hear. she said she called my house thsi AM- whihc she did NOT, i have caller ID my question is - do i have ot pay her for the day? do i not pay her at all? shoudl i pay her minus what i paid other sitter? we pay roughly 115 a day (its a long day), i paid other sitter 80 on one hand, i really dont feel like paying her. on the other, she watches my kids, i dont need her being mad, you know?

I would pay her for today, but make it clear that in the future, snow days will not be paid. Do you have a contract that you can amend with info on snow/inclement weather days?

Re: wwyd about nanny today?
Are there pd sick/personal days in your
child care agreement or just Holidays
and vacations?
If not I do not see the need to pay her.
We give our sitter 2 weeks (10days)
vacation, 3 sick days and 3 major
Holidays (she picked) all paid. So there i
is no question on when to pay her or not.

Re: wwyd about nanny today?
well once she called and left you a vm saying she couldn't make it out why did you keep calling her to come?
If she couldn't make it what does your agreement say for sick days? If she has some you may just tell her you are deducting from that and then pay her..if she doesn't have them, I personally would just pay her. I paid my babysitter for a few times where I really didn't think she should be paid, but like you said they watch your kid so no need for them to be mad at you.
But I don't think it is bad she canceled, mass transit was horrible and maybe she needed time shoveling out. JMO

Re: wwyd about nanny today?
I would give her the option of taking it as a vacation day since you had to pay someone else to watch your children. You don't get paid if you don't work & you should be clear that the same applies to her.
On the flip side, if she is scheduled to go in & you cancel her, there needs to be some compensation on her end.
You said she doesn't do much which isn't relevant to the conversation. Having her there allows you to work.

I agree with this....athough I have never dealt with this situation, so personally, I can't relate. But to me...it seems crazy to pay her and NOT take a vaca day

ITA with all of this. If she called you and said she can't make it, why call her back? I'm a SAHM now, but, when I was working, if I call in sick, that's it, leave me alone! Simple. Im not coming.
I have 2 friends that live on Staten Island..One works in midtown, her bus was NOT running and one works in NJ, same thing NO bus! Mass transit was not all on target yesterday!
