WWYD? Mom/kids in stores

I just went to Kohls. I was looking at a few things and these 2 girls were screaming at eachother and running around. I mean all out running around like they were in gym class. The mom does nothing but continue to look at the clothes and say one of thier names once.

I have dd with me in the stroller- shes finishing her bottle and just about fell asleep.

Girls were still running around like crazy. They were probably about 7 and 8 years old. Mom still does nothing.

As one of them was chasing the other and not paying attention she SLAMS into my stroller-woke dd up.

I was nasty and said to the mom-can you control your kids.

I understand kids are kids and thats fine. But running inbetween the aisles like you're at recess during lunch is beyond unacceptable.

what would you have done?

I'd be annoyed just like you were.

Sometimes I think some mommies have literally "checked out" and that is there only way to stay sane or go shopping, KWIM? Doesn't make it right, though.

did she say anything back?

Honestly, I don't think I would have told her to control her kids. I think that was a bit harsh. I would have said something more like, "maybe you can keep a closer eye on your girls, they just woke up my child." It still sends the same message without being quite as nasty.

I think you did the right thing, they could have hurt DD! And then you would have had to kill them . . . she would not have appreciated that I am sure. . .

I think what you said was fine, I mean, her kid slammed into your DD's stroller. I would have been pretty upset too.

I agree!!! They could have done much worse than just woke her up. What if they slammed into her? Or the stroller tipped? If I ever acted like that in the store my mother would have had my head. Too many parents just don't want to be bothered, it is sad.

Re: WWYD? Mom/kids in stores

I am the Mommy who will yell at other kids when they are out of control in a store. I got hurt really bad with kids that were running around. Two boys, ages 7 and 9 slammed into me so hard that when I fell, I slammed my back into a display and bruised 2 ribs. The mother was finally apologetic at that time....The store manager didn't know what to do...

I think you did the right thing....I am always telling kids to calm down or I find a store employee and they do it...God help the person/kid that bangs into DS one day...I have had kids run around his stroller and told them to knock it off. They usually listen and run back to their parent/s...Sometimes you have to be nasty with an adult. If you don't do something, then it is usually you or your child who is going to get hurt..

Re: WWYD? Mom/kids in stores

I am the mother that yells at her OWN children and get looks because how HORRIBLE I am to discipline them. I am not nasty, I am not mean, I do not curse. I simply discipline, something that not many parents seem to do anymore.

I would have told the kids to stop running & behave.

7 & 8 is old enough to know the difference between a store & gym class IMO.

I do think the mother should have intervened & stopped them too.

However if these were 2-3 year olds, I would have just smiled to the mom & said "I feel your pain, it gets better."

Re: WWYD? Mom/kids in stores

I was the kid who always chose to mutiny when my mom took us to the store. My brothers and I were animals even though we were raised better and she took us rarely because of it.

I remember one time, some how, the three of escaped from my mother and had a food fight in the candy aisle of Woolco (sp?) with 2 other kids we met up with. My poor mother.

I would have said something directly to the kids-that would have scared the ish out of us when we were kids. If the mom questioned me then I would have said, "you're welcome".

Re: WWYD? Mom/kids in stores

I probably would have tripped them on purposeChat Icon j/k. Well I have been that mother with a 2 and3 yr old running around destroying the store. I warn them and then make it known I'm not buying XYZ that they wanted and leave.

I probably would not have said anything directly to the mom but something within her hearing range. 7 & 8yr olds are old enough to act appropriately in a store for any amount of time.
