WWYD question... Santa line at mall question

OK, so here's the scenario:

You are in line to see Santa with your 2 children.

You have been waiting at least 20 minutes in line with other parents and their children.

There is a grandmother with her granddaughter in line behind you. Her granddaughter wants to get around you because there is a toy that all the kids are playing with. She asks your DH if he minds that the granddaughter wants to get around him. Your DH says no.

You go on about your waiting in line when all of a sudden you realize that this grandmother and her granddaughter are now not only standing ahead of you in line, but she has gotten in front of the people in front of you too.

You and the people in front of you start laughing about the fact that this woman has jumped 3 places in line.

WWYD? Would you say something to the grandmother or would you let her remain 3 places ahead of where she should be.... basically teaching her granddaughter (who must have been at least 7) that it is OK to jump ahead in line?

Just curious to see what others would have done!

ETA: I wanted to say what I did.

I actually told the grandmother that she was supposed to be in line behind us.... as kindly as I possibly could have. And she ended up going back to where she should have been.

It's interesting because so many people are voting that they wouldn't say anything. I really think that this is why so many people have no problems with cutting lines. Because they know that the average person is not going to say a word.

it would have pixxed me off and dh would have gotten an earful. but I wouldn't say anything to the woman.

is it right what she did? no, of course not. but I just don't think that she'd even listen if you did say anything, KWIM?

I would hae probably said something under my breath- loud enough for her to hear, but not directly to her. Yes, I guess I'm passive agressive. Chat Icon

I'm confused.. what do you mean a toy that all the kids are playing with? Did she mean she would stay at her place in line but the granddaughter wants to go ahead to play with the toy while the line is moving?

At our mall, they changed the entire area you wait in line for Santa.

Now the line snakes you through this area where there are things for the kids to play with. There is a spot where you can make it snow, a place for you to write a letter to Santa, a wall where you can stick your note to Santa on.

In one spot, they have this table where the kids can touch it and it changes colors where their warm hands touch. (DH called it the petri dish! Chat Icon Chat Icon )

Anyway, we were right by it and her granddaughter wanted to go play with it but they weren't up to it yet. I assume that she asked DH if just her granddaughter could go around so that she could play with the toy.

We did not imagine that the grandmother would eventually jump ahead of us and 2 other families. Chat Icon

Ok totally grossed out by the petri dish.. made me want to purrell my hands just thinking about it!

I don't think it's ever right to cut in line.. it's obnoxious (I don't think I'd ever feel the need to say something though and would hope karma would get 'em in the long run!) but I also don't understand why your DH would care if the little girl went up and played with the next station if she wasn't actually cutting the line.

I would say nothing...this happened to my DH last week and I was watching him from afar and he just gave me the shrugged shoulder look. Maybe normally I would say something, but people are crazy near the holidays Chat Icon

The reason DH didn't miind was because he thought that the granddaughter was going to go up to where the toy was and eventually the grandmother would catch up to her there. The grandmother could have seen the child from where she was in line behind us.

Then we got busy with trying to wrangle in our own DC and all of a sudden noticed that she had not only passed us in line but another family in front of us.

Would it make a difference if I told you she definitely was not one of the little cute, old grandmas? She was loud and obnoxious which is why I couldn't keep my mouth shut! Chat Icon

Would definitely say something if she was loud and obnoxious -s he knew what she was doing.

Those lines can be cutthroat. I went to the mall with DS this weekend and the line was ridiculous and the mall had just opened (we had gone to do something else).
