wwyd re: a vacation with kids.
After much saving money and lots of research from th e travel and vaca board we have decided on beaches turks and caicos for our family vaca. Long overdue. Its $$$ but can't decide if we should spend an extra $300 on travel insurance. I'm considering it for the kids just bc you never know. Would you?

Re: wwyd re: a vacation with kids.
I always buy travel insurance now after my terrible vaca in 2007. The night before we were supposed to leave on a cruise to the Caribbean I got deathly ill 104 fever, went to the ER I had tonsillitis. We didn't have travel insurance and there was no way we were losing out on the cost of the cruise and our airfare. I was miserable flying and the first 3 days of the cruise were terrible. Now I buy travel insurance. IMO very worth it.

Yes! MIL is a TA and it happens all the time - people get sick, death in family, etc. It is worth it!

Before DS, I never thought of getting travel insurance, but now I do. If you get it through American Express (you don't have to have a card) it's really cheap.

I actually just booked Beaches Turks & Caicos yesterday and got the insurance without question. Way too much can happen especially with little kids and I dont want to take any chances!
What week are you going?

Re: wwyd re: a vacation with kids.
I've never done travel insurance, but it depends on the cancellation policy of your hotel. If you lose 1 night... it may be OK. Lots of airlines will give you some flexibility in rescheduling too in the case of a hospitalization, ect.
Compare the price of the insurance with all the fees you would pay for a last minute cancellation. Then, decide on the gamble.
the other thing is... how sick would the kid have to be for you to cancel.
