WWYD re: H1N1 in Deer Park?
DD is in a Mom & Tot class through the Town of Babylon. It is in a nursery school room with hundreds of toys. The kids have open play for 30 minutes and then circle time with bells that they hold, then crafts and then snacks and a story.
The town of Babylon encompasses Deer Park. So there are probably kids in the classes with siblings from the school district that is closed for a week because of probable H1N1 Flu cases. There are 3-4 classes a day, 10-15 kids per class. I've watched them clean the room between classes and it is in no way sufficient to stop something like this although acceptable when there isn't a virus like this to be wary of.
Should we skip the class this week or do you think it's OK for us to go? DD loves it so I'm leaning towards going but DH said we should probably skip.

Re: WWYD re: H1N1 in Deer Park?
I have a similar issue, in that one of the kids in G's school has an older sibling in the DP school district. I am friendly with their mom, so she is keeping me in the loop. It seems they just want to clean DP schools for prevention.
As far as the pre-school, we are waiting to hear what they think is proper precaution for the students. So far they are also considering closing for a massive scale cleaning of the entire facility. Call the TOB and ask them what they are doing as precautions.
But, I might skip. For just one week to see what happens.

Re: WWYD re: H1N1 in Deer Park?
I would absolutely skip.
I am in a similar situation b/c I am near the main outbreak. And my ped's office has some St. Francis Prep students, so I am debating whether to reschedule a vaccination only appt this week.
So...would I skip a class for fun? Absolutely, for a week or two just to see what happens.

Re: WWYD re: H1N1 in Deer Park?
I'm hardly neurotic about germs, but even I bought wipes to sterilize a shopping cart prior to use, and have increased handwashing beyond what I already did.......
Also... eventhough DS recently started shopping with me, I've stopped bringing him into shops and other enclosed areas... I'm waiting for this flu thing to get under control. I suspect it will plateau and then decline in several weeks (since mexico has already seen its progression slow this week).
It's mainly becuase there's no swine flu shot... At 7 mo, DS can't afford to catch it.
so, I'd skip any place like that. Kids put everything in their mouths... not safe....

Re: WWYD re: H1N1 in Deer Park?
I would skip...
DD (11 weeks) is supposed to start day care on Tues. I already spoke to our parents and they could arrange to watch her for the next 2 or so weeks.
Am I completely crazy for putting off day care? I know it's something that could continue to go around for a while, but I would feel better if she did not start just yet.
eta..we are in E. Nthprt

I am the last person to panic or worry in these situations, however, I would skip this week. Hell, I even wiped down a shopping cart with a antibacterial wipe today before putting Ava in and I NEVER do that.

Re: WWYD re: H1N1 in Deer Park?
Thanks for the input. We are going to skip tomorrow's Mom and Tot and I'm debating Tuesday's Music Together class, but that is smaller and much more controlled.
I think waiting a week to see how things shake out in Deer Park and around the rest of the island is the safe thing to do with a young child.
