WWYD? RE: moving boxes
We're moving. I specifically told my husband not to get boxes from the grocery store to move our stuff...since you never know if roaches have been in them (layed their eggs, etc). I've heard of this happening and I just don't want to take the chance. He just called me and said he got 16 boxes that Kellogs corn flakes were in. (He has a friend who is a manager at waldbaums). He swears it will be FINE
Should I use them? I'm so mad Why doesn't he just listen to me. I rather pay the $2 per box from Uhaul.

Re: WWYD? RE: moving boxes
When I moved last year, I used cereal boxes I got from the hospital I worked in. No problems.

Re: WWYD? RE: moving boxes
I would throw them out ASAP. I am very anti cardboard for that exact reason, esp anything from a supermarket.

Re: WWYD? RE: moving boxes
when we moved we went to the local liquor store and got boxes from them.... they were fine. buying boxes will get really fast. We also bought a bunch of plastic totes and use them for all of our holiday and summer stuff....

Re: WWYD? RE: moving boxes
My DH works in construction, and he turned me on to using the really large "construction" garbage bags they sell at Home Depot. You can get a ton of stuff in them. If I remember correctly, they are not that expensive either. At least compared to boxes.
They are really tough and don't rip either.
Now granted you can't pack everything this way, but a lot of stuff you can!

Re: WWYD? RE: moving boxes
when we moved I bought brand new boxes from someone on ebay- they were large and very sturdy, I can't remember how much I spent, but it wasn't too bad!! they were shipped to me flat, we had to pop all the sides in to use them.
not sure if I'd use the ones from the grocery store. never know what stowaways might be in them! lol

Re: WWYD? RE: moving boxes
I would bang them out against the sidewalk or someplace to get any lingering things out of there and use them. Boxes are expensive and there's no guarantee there are no bugs in the boxes at u-haul.
I second the heavy duty garbage bag suggestion. I use them for blankets, pillows, towels, clothes and make garment bags out of them for stuff on hangers.
