WWYD? Running a race tomorrow...
So I am signed up to do a 4 mile run tomorrow in Central Park as part of the Fitness Mind Body Spirit games. Given the situation with the weather, I'm not sure what to do. I don't live in NYC so I was planning on driving into the city tomorrow morning (I live about an hour away). I want to go but DH thinks it's not a good idea given the high chance of thunderstorms, etc. Should I still go or not even chance it? WWYD?

given that weatherpeople are frequently wrong, i would probably set my alarm and see what's going on in the morning. if it's pouring rain and just horrible out when i got up i'd skip.

If it were me personally, I would not go, but I don't like to drive in the rain. If you don’t mind driving in the rain I’d play if by ear. Also, have you been in contact, or is there a website? Maybe they have a rain contingency date?

Re: WWYD? Running a race tomorrow...
I'm in the race also tom morning. I was thinking the same thing about whether the race would be going on or not. As far as I know, they don't cancel races for the rain, only if it's severe thunderstorms.
My problem is that I need this race to get my 9 qualifying races, so I have to go and run in the rain
I was actually planning on going early and running a loop before the race to get my long run in in one shot, but not sure how that will work out with the rain.

I think I'm going to play it by ear and see what the weather is like tomorrow morning when I wake up. I don't mind running in the rain so much. It's more the driving home to LI that wouldn't make me so happy. Hopefully the weather will hold out until later in the day because I'm sure there are tons of people who are in the same situation.

I would wake up and prep for it like I was going and then determine if I actually leave by the way the weather looks closer to the time you go

this was just posted on the runner's world message board:

NYRR is carefully monitoring appropriate weather sites in order to make decisions regarding the Fitness Mind, Body, Spirit Games races. Weather depending, the race start times may be delayed and the men's and women's races may be combined into one race. If wind is severe, clocks and mile markers may be moved to the ground.
Any updates will be posted at www.nyrr.org and recorded on the outgoing message at 212.860.4455 after 5:00 a.m. on Saturday. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to ensure the safety of our runners, staff, and volunteers.

I just saw this. I'm going to check their site when I wake up and make my decision from there. Thanks again!

Re: WWYD? Running a race tomorrow...
I would go regardless of the weather. I'm running the ocean to sound relay tomorrow and I've never heard of a race being called for weather.
Good luck.
