WWYD? sleep issues with miki

So as I have mentioned before, miki is going through a tough time now that KJ is here and she has regressed alot when it comes to sleeping...

I have had to lay with her (last night it took about 1 1/2 hours) until she falls asleep and then she has been waking up at 2-3am screaming for me....if I let her CIO, she will vomit as she is getting SO worked up....screaming, banging on the door, etc

last night, she was crying that she wanted me to leave her door open while I layed with and humed to her so I did

when I left once she was sleeping, I shut the door (we have a child proof cover over the inside handle so she cannot open the door by herself)

when she woke up at 2am, kevin went in there to lay with her but left the door open

a little while later I have her at the side of my bed while DH is still sleeping in her room Chat Icon

I woke kevin up, let miki lay in bed with us for 1 hour and then went into her room to lay with her until the morning.

I am afraid if I leave her door open, she will roam the house at night and potentially get into some mischeif

WWYD? would you let her CIO (even if that means hyperventilation and vomiting?

would you let her sleep in your bed?

would you leave her door open while she sleeps

would you incorporate a sticker chart, like if you stay in your bed all night, you will get a sticker, after a few stickers, a small present, etc

I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Sorry you are going through this...I can only imagine how sleep deprived you are right now.

I would try a sticker chart or some kind of reward program. It is crazy that on top of feeding KJ during the night you and your DH are taking turns laying with Miki and trying to get her to sleep.

Is KJ in your room or in his own? If he's in your room, maybe she wants to sleep in there b/c she feels left out.

Maybe have her help you create a sticker chart, decorate it, pick out stickers and put it on her door. If she gets a sticker for every night that week, maybe she gets to pick out a special book or toys from the store. I would definetely stick to a routine and stop laying in there with her...I think she is testing you and manipulating you big time!

KJ does not sleep in our room, he is either in his crib or in the swing. I am going to do the sticker chart....I will take her with me to the store to pick out some stickers and a nice piece of construction paper to make it on...that is going to be our project for tonight

I do not lay with her when I initially put her to bed

I kneel on the floor and hold her hand and hum to her....if I try to just put her into bed and leave, she gets hysterical, like uncontrollably and I cannot let her throw up on herself and not go in there to clean it up....I just can't

now what should she get a sticker for

1 - not getting out of her bed/room if we DO decide to leave her door open (right now, I am leaning towards NOT leaving her door open)

2 - not SCREAMING at the top of her lungs and banging on the door if she DOES wake up in the middle of the night

3 - going to bed without having me stay with her, like she always used to

I am just not sure what I am trying to reward

Re: WWYD? sleep issues with miki

Have you tried calling out to her from our bed? Will she hear you?

CAll me crazy, but DH started this when I was away at a conference and Gavin was crying for me......when he woke in the middle of the night crying, DH would say very sternly and loudly "Nite Nite Gavin, Dada's here" and 9 times out of 10 it works!

Now when Gavin gets a little fussy he replies with a soft "Noooooo" Chat Icon

yeah, my house is like a shoebox so she would definitely hear me...Chat Icon

I may try that, I think the problem with me leaving her door open is that she will just wander into my room
I got so spoiled with a great sleeper that this is really throwing us for a loop Chat Icon

That's what happened to us when Gavin hurt his finger and he couldn't suck on it to sleep.....we went fro a kid who could be plopped in his crib wide awake and would stay occupied with his music and sucking his fingers for an hour in the morning to a kid who took forever to sleep through the night and is up at the crack of dawn.....

For us it's just that he wants to know we are there so it works.....good luck!
