WWYD?..Dunkin Donuts near my job gives me a hard time when I get my coffee

Little background:
I've been upstate for almost a year. In my office building there's a dunkin donuts on the first floor. It's extremely convenient and I visit to buy coffee at least once a workday. The workers there are very nice and we've all gotten to know each other very well. Most of them are related and are refugees struggling to make it in this country the last year. They know me by name and drink and at times have thrown in little extras for free.

Since announcing my pregnancy, I've been getting unsolicited advice from everyone. Whatever. I expected it. Once they found out, I also started getting the "no caffeine" talk from them. At first I thought it was nice they cared. But it has now progressed to them being adamant and dictating their no caffeine rule once they see me walk in. Some refuse to serve me and usually pass the order along to a young coworker who does it with pain in her face.

I've told them...thank you for your concern...It's my body...I know what's right for me...etc...

At they end of every visit, they nicely wish me goodbye and tell me they hope I'm feeling better...etc...Again they are very nice older people, but this is getting ridiculous. Would you state something to management? I would HATE to see any of them get in trouble or fired bc of all they've gone though...
and I REFUSE to switch shops bc this is Albany, not Long Island. THere is not another DD close by.

Should I just suck it up and smile and continue standing my ground or should I report them? If it was anyone else, I would have made a huge stink out of it...but I truly have grown a soft spot for them after learning about their past lives, customs and meeting basically their entire family.

I would just tell them once and for all, listen, I'm entitled to one cup of coffee a day. Please let me buy my coffee without giving me a hard time. I don't want to take my business elsewhere, and be done wiht it. and if they continue giving you a hard time, tell them "do I need a doctor's note now to get coffee?????"

Because honestly, that is INSANE.

i agree with pp, I would tell them that you are allowed to have coffee and you don't need to hear their comments. Tell them if they continue to give you a hard time you will have to complain to management. Hopefully they stop!! that is so rude of them!

that is annoying. i HATE when everyone makes a comment about how i drink my one cup a day. friends, family, people at work. people dont know when to shut up. and soemtimes i even go for a second cup...but i make it decaf!

tough call. i'd be REALLY ANNOYED by this...
yeah i'd agree just tell them how you feel, to mind their own business, or else you'll have to say something to mgmt. hopefully they'll stop. it's totally not acceptable to refuse to serve anyone anything (excepting the obvious intoxicated person in a bar kind of scenario). it is not illegal for a pregnant woman to consume coffee... or anything for that matter.

so sorry you're dealing with this... i'd be fuming!

I would simply stop my patronage if you're not so attached. Or, like other PP said, tell them once and for all and threaten to tell management. It's rude and it's WAAAAAAY to personal.

They are doing with good intentions so I would probably just be like, my dr. said its ok and leave it at that.. or say something like its better than chocolate.. or its extra calcium kwim? I don't know.. when I see folks like that who don't know any better and does and says stuff without any malice, I can't rough it out or tell em to myob. I also feel like since they think they "know" you, they can offer you advice, perhaps it is in their culture to do so for people they care for. But I'm not in your situation, and if you really don't like it, then as the other ladies said, be stern. Enjoy your coffee!

I would tell them straight, thanks for the advice but please stick to making my coffee, otherwise im going to call corporate. I LOATHE advice from random "strangers"

OMG I would rage. This is crazy!!!! I'm sorry you have to go through that. I go through iced coffee like a champ...I would freak out if anyone said something to me.

This has happened to me.

I go to Dr. Pillitteri, and before my 8am visits, I always go to the DD down the block. Once I started showing, they started giving me a hard time too. But not in a nice way like you are getting. They were out tight RUDE and nasty and would NOT take my order I was shocked. The line was growing out the door and I am actually having an argument with a man who refused to give me my skim latte. RIDIC. I was floored. But I sort of laughed it off. It then happened a second week in a row!! The lady behind the counter (in spanish) said to her co worker.. I must not care about my baby because I can give it poison!?!?! I guess not realizing I understood every word she said. I replied My doctor who has 10 years of medical school and double that in his practice is fully aware of my
caffeine intake...where is your medical degree? Go GET ME MY COFFEE. I was P*ssed. How dare she even IMPLY I would do anything to harm these children, when I lived and breathed for them LONG before they were even conceived. Ugh I feel my blood boiling now just thinking about it, ha.

The nerve of some people. I would try to be polite one more time and say you will go to mgmt next time there is any more problems. Who has time for this?


P.S. DH doesn't let me go in anymore he gets the breakfast now

I would most definitely complain to the manager and and higher up if it doesn't stop. It is none of their business what you drink. That is harassment!!!!

Wow. It's not like you are bellying up to a bar and ordering a Jack and Coke!

I would say- listen my Dr has told me that one cup of coffee a day is fine and does NO harm.
I appreciate your concern, but I listen to my Dr.

Ugh that would make me INSANE!!!

But I hear you about not wanting to get them in trouble since they are nice people etc.

If I were you, id flip the eff out! I would say, excuse me. "Are any of you doctors here? Have you done or read published control studies on the effects on caffiene and pregnancy?? Because I've done my research and understand the risks vs benefits and know what's safe for MY baby. I find it very hurtful and quite annoying to have to hear from non-medical people that I'm harming my baby when I'm NOT! So either serve me what I want, or I will stop coming here even post partum and bring my own coffee daily.

WOW!
I would tell them your doctor says one cup of coffee a day is fine and you are allowed to have it.
I'd even tell them the limit of caffeine you are allowed to have in a day.
and if that didn't work then I would give some some documentation about it (like an article).

That's all if I wanted to avoid reporting them of course. If I wasn't friendly with them and didn't like them, I would just tell them to mind their own business and if they didn't then I'd report them.

UGH this reminds me of my old coworker who would tell me I was going to get GD whenever she saw me drink coffee... which BTW was literally an 8oz coffee MAYBE once a week if that.. jsut when I had a headache!!

and It ****** me off big time when I ended up with GD..... just because I didn't need to hear her stupid voice saying "i told you so" even though my logical brain knows that's NOT why I ended up with GD anyway!! UGH!!
