x-post---1st high risk appointment ---Update (Long)
http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?&P=1&ID=628222&Highlight=#P7272111
UPDATE: The appointment went great! Doctor Klein is quite a character! I absolutely loveeee him!!! Unfortunately, my DH could not make it to the appointment due to work related constraints. I took my best-friend of 17 years (who is like my other husband or worst) instead. Doctor Klein was ok with that and very accommodating. He let my hubby be on speaker phone while he explained things to us. I can't thank him enough for that!
Well, the appointment took about 2 hours and I was taken care right away. I only waited about 5 minutes from the minute I was signed in until he called me. Nurse took the blood pressure, my weight... , some information, and about 12 tubes of blood . The nurse was so sweet! OMG! everyone in there was absolutely great!!
Dr. Klein checked my cervix, pap-smear for good measure, and the sonogram. OMG! it was amazing to see all three babies actually looking like babies finally!! I must admit, I was a bit nervous /scared that all three might not be there. Dr. Klein put me at ease before the sonogram. When he did the sonogram, two of the babies were jumping all over the place.... OMG so active!!! One of them was not moving at all and that worried me. Doctor Klein assured me he saw the baby move and I was like "no, not moving". So Doctor Klein proceeded to shake my belly like jello.....and guess what....the baby turned around and stretched his/her arms...OMG! I started crying!!! Soon after the baby was jumping all over the place as well.
Doctor Klein referred me to get a consultation with a genetics counselor and a Doctor at NSUH to do a CVS. We have an appointment on Monday and if we decide to go with the test, it will be done on Monday as well. DH and I are on the fence about it right now after reading on the 1 in 200 risk of miscarriage We are going to the consult and doing research this weekend and will make a decision from there. DH has a blood condition which as we understand is not hereditary, but since doctors don't know much about it....we don't want to take chances. I am also 38 and hubby 47. Also, as per my research, since there are 3 there is a higher chance of any problems. We are praying and keeping positive If everything goes well, then I will be getting a cervical cerclage two weeks after for good measure since I am petite and belly is rapidly growing.
It seems like every time we get over being nervous about something, another test needs to be done and we are a mess (worrying) about something else.....
If you had a CVS can you please let me know how it was for you? What about the cervical cerclage?
Thank you so much for your prayers and good wishes everyone.

Re: x-post---1st high risk appointment
best of luck at your 1st HR appt.. i heard Victor Klein is a great doctor!! he has been around for some time!
the 1st appt they ask you a ton of questions, i am sure you will sit in his office to talk after your appt. and the appt itself will take awhile.. i remember at all my high risk doc appts they were very long.. becasue they are extremely thorough! they check EVERYTHING!! so bring your patience!! especially with 3 babies!!

Re: x-post---1st high risk appointment
Honestly, I conceived my twins naturally so my first appointment was with the regular OB. I saw the perinatologist for the first time around 8 weeks to determine if they were mono-mono twins or mono-di. And at that appointment it was just a sono.
But, good luck!!! I hope you have a great apppointment!!!

Re: x-post---1st high risk appointment
My first peri appt was 3 hours...yes I said 3 hours! I was blessed with have the ever so rare mono-mono twins so there was a lot to talk about. They did a very thorough sono checking every little detail of the twins. They checked my cervix, drew blood, and asked a bazillion questions. Then we basicallly just discussed the course of action for the pregnancy.
All my visit after that one were still VERY long...like 1.5 hours to 2 hours. I have to say I liked it though...I got to spend a lot of time watching my boys swim around in there!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: x-post---1st high risk appointment ---Update (Long)
I had a cerclage put in place at 16 weeks. They did it with a spinal which was just a little pinch. The procedure itself was so quick...maybe 20 minutes. I didnt feel a thing during it..just some pulling and tuggin but no pain. Once the spinal wore off it was quite sore...felt kinda like really bad period cramps in my opinion. They gave me percocet, told me to rest up, brought me some ginger ale and crackers and that was really it. I had to wait till I could pee on my own before they would discharge me. I was fine the next day just some minor spotting. Nothing bad at all. You will be fine!
