1st high risk appointment---UPDATE (LONG)

Tomorrow we are having our first appointment with Dr. Victor Klein after "graduating" from our RE. I am a bit nervous and praying that we still hear and see 3 strong heartbeats Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have never been to a high risk doctor before. I was wondering if anyone knows what should I expect during my first visit. Any information is much appreciated.

UPDATE:
The appointment went great! Doctor Klein is quite a character! I absolutely loveeee him!!! Unfortunately, my DH could not make it to the appointment due to work related constraints. I took my best-friend of 17 years (who is like my other husband Chat Icon or worst) instead. Doctor Klein was ok with that and very accommodating. He let my hubby be on speaker phone while he explained things to us. I can't thank him enough for that!

Well, the appointment took about 2 hours and I was taken care right away. I only waited about 5 minutes from the minute I was signed in until he called me. Nurse took the blood pressure, my weight...Chat Icon Chat Icon , some information, and about 12 tubes of bloodChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . The nurse was so sweet! OMG! everyone in there was absolutely great!!

Dr. Klein checked my cervix, pap-smear for good measure, and the sonogram. OMG! it was amazing to see all three babies actually looking like babies finally!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I must admit, I was a bit nervous /scared that all three might not be there. Dr. Klein put me at ease before the sonogram.

When he did the sonogram, two of the babies were jumping all over the place....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon OMG so active!!! One of them was not moving at all and that worried me. Doctor Klein assured me he saw the baby move and I was like "no, not moving". So Doctor Klein proceeded to shake my belly Chat Icon Chat Icon like jello.....and guess what....the baby turned around and stretched his/her arms...OMG! I started crying!!! Soon after the baby was jumping all over the place as well.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Doctor Klein referred me to get a consultation with a genetics counselor and a Doctor at NSUH to do a CVS. We have an appointment on Monday and if we decide to go with the test, it will be done on Monday as well. DH and I are on the fence about it right now after reading on the 1 in 200 risk of miscarriage Chat Icon We are going to the consult and doing research this weekend and will make a decision from there. DH has a blood condition which as we understand is not hereditary, but since doctors don't know much about it....we don't want to take chances. I am also 38 and hubby 47. Also, as per my research, since there are 3 there is a higher chance of any problems. We are praying and keeping positiveChat Icon Chat Icon

If everything goes well, then I will be getting a cervical cerclage two weeks after for good measure since I am petite and belly is rapidly growing.Chat Icon

It seems like every time we get over being nervous about something, another test needs to be done and we are a mess (worrying) about something else.....

If you had a CVS can you please let me know how it was for you? What about the cervical cerclage?

Thank you so much for your prayers and good wishes everyone.

Good luck tomorrow!!

If I remember my 1st appt at the high risk doc was similar to an OB appt. They did a sono, asked a ton of questions, and I don't remember if they did bloodwork? Can't really remember back to the first one since it seemed like there were sooooo many!

But good luck tomorrow! Chat Icon Chat Icon

i wish you lots of luck!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

he might do a quick sono at his office but he does tend to send high risk patients to the hospital for more detailed sonos.

get ready for him. he's quite the character but a VERY good doctor.

Re: 1st high risk appointment

Honestly, I conceived my twins naturally so my first appointment was with the regular OB. I saw the perinatologist for the first time around 8 weeks to determine if they were mono-mono twins or mono-di. And at that appointment it was just a sono.

But, good luck!!! I hope you have a great apppointment!!! Chat Icon

Always remember that unfortunately with multiples we always have more things to worry about. But it doesn't mean that you cannot and will not have a good healthy pregnancy with a great outcome. You are in good hands! Be possitive and everything will be great.
