X-POST Has anyone NOT taken Metformin for PCOS?
Diagnosed with PCOS. I know the typical protocol is to take Clomid and Metformin. Made an appointment in Sept. to see an RE.
I am really afraid to start taking Metformin due to its really bad side effects on the stomach. I already suffer from IBS from time to time and anxiety. Has anyone tried to get pregnant or has become pregnant without the help of Metformin? I have already tried 2 rounds of Clomid with my GYN and timed intercourse (did not become pregnant). Had no side effects from taking the Clomid. It is the Metformin I am really afraid to take, and it is causing me major anxiety
Anyone not take it and have had any success?

i take 1000mg a day and never had "those"
issues
i alos have PSOC but veyr slight and only becausce my testosterone is high which is now stabalized.
i think if your body can handle clomid i think metformin is a breeze
clomid scares me! lol

Lol, yeah clomid was fine for me. I hope my body can handle the Met. Thanks for your response

I never took it and have PCOS. I took clomid for 9 cycles.

I honestly think the 2 together really was my boost to get pregnant with my son.
I was on the clomid for 1 cycle with my regular OB...and nothing!
Once i went to the Fert. Dr...and was monitored and put on the MET, it was only a few more cycles...and i got PG with my son.
It can't hurt to try.

You can lessen the side effects by slowly increasing your dosage of Met. They come in 500 and 750 tabs. I would also ask for the name brand rather than generic. For me, the benefits of Metformin outweighed the IBS side effects. Once my body adapted, I was fine. It took me a couple of weeks and my nurse told me that was very unusual as most are fine after a week or so.
