I know this has been posted before but bear with me - dog and new baby ?

So as you know, my Sandy is spoiled rotten. She sleep in our bed and is treated like our baby (which she is - I always tell her that no matter what, she will always be my first baby Chat Icon )

So, how do I get her ready for the "real" baby that will be here in 3 short months?

Holy Sh!t...3 more months Chat Icon

any tips, thanks girls

Get a doll. Carry the doll around the house, let her sniff the doll. Place the doll on the couch, , your bed, etc. After a few weeks, purchase a doll that makes crying noises and do the same thing.

When the nursery is ready, let Sandy sniff the room to her hearts content. Let her smell the baby's clothes too.

Oh one more thing, when you come home from the hospital have one person come in carrying the baby and the other come in going right to Sandy and giving her a kiss. Whoever is closer to Sandy should not be walking in with the baby. I am going to guess it is you. So you come in and run to her and hug her.

When people come to visit, they will be excited to see the baby. Make sure she gets a hug or new toy from them too.

This will make the transition a lot easier for her.

Thanks, I will be buying a baby doll soon. There are some things in the nursery already and Sandy loves to go in there....

Great thread! I can't wait to see how Molly acts with the baby. She is so great with children - but I wonder if she will be like that when the child never goes home!

I think I would also try to still spend quality time with the dog. Let's say your feeding the baby - then maybe your husband can go out and play with the dog (or vice versa) -

ETA: Great pic!

Re: I know this has been posted before but bear with me - dog and new baby ?

When my oldest daughter was born, we had our first dog, Dudley. He was our baby. He slept on our bed, couch, pretty much anywhere he wanted. He was the king. When we brought her home, we put her down by him and let him get a good sniff. He poked her, licked her and then walked away. That was the last time he bothered with her for almost four months. He didn't seem to care that she was around until she started moving. In the meantime, he wasn't treated any differently by us. He was still our baby. As she grew, they became fast friends. He was as attached to her as she was to him. That was 25 years ago and we still miss him so much.
