XP: Rant about home buying/selling prices!!!!

I have accepted that the home prices are ridiculous.

But I really can't get over the prices some people are daring to ask for their homes in Nassau county!!!! I say Nassau because that is where I am concentrating.

There's horrid wallpaper in every room, bathrooms and kitchens need to be completely redone and the houses look like "schlockhouses".

And they're asking $550-599K!!!!!!!!

This makes me want to either stay in my house which looks 10x better or list it for $700k!!!!!!

I just can't get over how DH and I take so much pride in our home and just because we want to move to a bigger house we will either have to fork over $700K or start from scratch again on fixing it up. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

OK rant over.

I just went to an open house in East Rockaway on Sranton Avenue (my dream location)

The woman lived in the house till she was 103 and didn't do a DAMN THING !!!!!!!!

They were asking $599 and the entire house needed to be gutted as well as full landscaping!!!

Where the hell do you get off asking $599?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

I'm gonna live in my little house forever.....

It's ridiculous... which is one reason why we are moving out of state.

We almost bought a condo in nassau but i'm so glad we backed out b/c I couldn't imagine paying such a huge mortgage on something so little!

oh yeah, and don't forget the 11K taxes.....

I really wouldn't mind if the houses were in primo condition or at least ACCEPTABLE, but they look awful in pictures, imagine what they look like in person.....

Its the freaking gutting thing that makes me ill. Fine the walls are pale pink and green. But if the house is falling apart, I need to walked through how it is going to cost almost a million dollars. Unreal.

I want Mineola, NHP, Floral Park so bad I can taste it.Chat Icon

EDIT TO SAY
I do love living in NYC thoughChat Icon

haha this is funny, because it relates to my post about commuting LOL..

I do think that in general that home prices are stabalizing... those houses you are seeing today for $599 would have been asking $799 two years ago!
But the longer they sit, the more the prices will drop.

I agree with this but more and more I see alot of people trying to sell their crappy house for what the guy next door's really nice house is selling for. Wake up, no one's buying!

I tell realtors all the time their house isn't NEAR what they're asking. Tell your seller they're dreaming.......

bad realtors then. running comps is standard but they're obviously not taking into account that the guy next door is completely updated! its the realtors job to tell the sellers what they can "realistically" get for their house so they can SELL it. it doesnt do anyone good to price it at what the seller wants and to have it sit on the market for months on end.

dont worry gina! i'm here for you girl!Chat Icon
