I never experienced that. .. but I do very highly recommend Andrew Kaplan (Andy) if you plan on switching!! He's located in RVC, I can update later with his number since my cell is not by me now!! 
I've been seeing him since March, he's great and I never have any complaints!

I have been doing acupuncture with Andrew Kaplan in Rockville Center for over a year and although I sometimes get a bit tingly or itchy from the needles (which is thought to be good), I haven't felt the pain you are describing. Maybe it's time to switch.
