Re: Xpost...Tell me about Merrick
I know we have been FM'ing, but wanted to throw out a few things that I thought of and for you to consider:
1. There is south Merrick and there is north Merrick. They have completely different feels (in terms of the styles of houses, neighborhoods) and the school districts are different (as far as elementary schools - SD 25 is Merrick and SD 29 is N. Merrick). The middle and high schools are part of the Bellmore-Merrick Central district. All of Merrick goes to Merrick Ave Middle School for 7th and 8th, but then south Merrick (and the line is just a bit north of sunrise highway) goes to Kennedy High and north Merrick goes to Calhoun. There are a lot of different neighbhorhoods in both south and north Merrick with different names, so if you are looking online, you will see some listings say "Merrick Woods" some say "Merrick Manor" some say "Lindenmere." I can think of about a dozen named areas!
2. Merrick is a very family-friendly area with a lot of community spirit. The Merrick fall fair (sponsored by the Merrick chamber of commerce) was just last weekend with rides, craft booths, etc. The has a lot of nice stores and restaurants on Merrick Rd. (south Merrick) and also on Merrick Ave (north Merrick).
3. Merrick is very convenient -- it's on the Babylon train line which is great (and the express train is about 39 minutes to Penn). It's near a lot of parkways (southern state, meadowbrook) and major roads (sunrise highway, merrick rd.).
I think it's a great area!
Feel free to FM me more with other questions.

Re: Xpost...Tell me about Merrick
I grew up in South Merrick and I thought it was a great place overall. The schools are great, they have good stores, and it's very convienent to other areas, and you are close to NYC and the beach. Like the above poster said, the train is direct and you don't need a permit to park there (although it fills up quickly). Some parts of Merrick are a little snobby, but I think you will find that with alot of towns. My parents still live there and I am there every few weeks or so. I think it's a really nice town to live in.

I grew up in N. Merrick but in the N. Bellmore school district. I have no complaints! I think it's a prime location commuting wise, good schools...

Re: Xpost...Tell me about Merrick
Merrick is great! I live right next door in Bellmore. My friends are in N Merrick too but they're zoned for Mepham so I guess it depends exactly where you are...they're in the neighborhood across from My Hero.

I love how so many people from the area use My Hero as a point of reference when describing location
I grew up in the neighborhood behind it
